- Rielly gets traded for a "Max Pacioretty" style return (A good player, solid prospect and 2nd pick)
- Rielly could anchor an NHL blue line for 8-9 years
- Pick up a couple of assets from Buffalo
- Upgrade WPG RH winger skill
- VGK frees up cap space to sign Martinez, get solid RHD depth, a GREAT prospect and a 2nd or 1st Round Pick

RATS! I JUST SAW THE TRAVIS YOST ARTICLE. I THOUGHT I HAD AN OFF THE WALL ORIGINAL IDEA!

Edit #2: Noticed Ritchie NOT qualified by Boston so I am going to add him instead of Nick Foligno for the 1st line

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Ehlers, Nikolaj
  2. Lowry, Adam
Additional Details:
** Ehlers struggled in the playoffs this year but is signed a year longer than Nylander
** Lowry could bounce between center and LW on the 3rd line with Spezza
WPG
  1. Brooks, Adam
  2. Kerfoot, Alexander
  3. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
** Nylander excelled in the playoffs point wise and his value has never been higher. I think that Nylander has more skill but Ehlers looks hungrier. If Nylander actually plays hungry for the rest of his career than this trade could really come back and bite us.
** Kerfoot showed his value as a winger, ability to be on the PK and shift to center when needed
** Brooks is a WPG citizen and is a solid 4th liner at center with a 3rd line ceiling
2.
TOR
  1. Dahlin, Rasmus [RFA Rights]
  2. Eichel, Jack
Additional Details:
PLUS UFA Rights to Linus Ullmark
- Eichel is owed $50 MIL still
- Dahlin needs new contract
—-quite a haul for Buffalo but I believe an overpayment is the only thing that will save Kevyn Adams job.
BUF
  1. Abramov, Mikhail
  2. Marner, Mitchell
  3. Rielly, Morgan
  4. Sandin, Rasmus
Additional Details:
*** This gives Buffalo a boatload of skill and saves them a MASSIVE amount of money.
**Marner has less than $25 million remaining on his contract to pay. It’s less than half of what Eichel still needs to be paid. Marner is a highly skilled top 5 scoring elite talent
** Sandin -- A potentially great defenceman still on cheap ELC
** Rielly to keep or flip. The assets acquired in a Rielly trade should resemble something similar to what Max Pacioretty got. After nixing a trade to LA, Bergevin was still trying hard to trade him. He got Tatar as a decent player, Suzuki who was a really good prospect and a second round pick.
**Abramov - A top centre prospect
3.
VGK
  1. Amirov, Rodion
  2. Liljegren, Timothy
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (TOR)

Ehlers was a lot better this year than Nylander, also he wasn't bad in the playoffs lol

Why would buffalo do that

I had kind of started it a little tongue-in-cheek. I originally called it "a couple of small trades". Then I saw the Travis Yost article after I was done trying to be really off the wall and realized my crazy proposal actually was partially suggested in main stream media.

Basically for a franchise centre and a possible franchise defenseman, I was offering an elite winger, a 2nd pair defenseman, assets from a rental UFA defenceman trade and an unproven prospect.

On a more serious note, I'm just really frustrated with the leafs. Four years ago I was able to see a potentially elite franchise with some key building blocks in place but with the overpayment of each building block and then demolishing the proper build with the signing of Tavares, this team has no chance for at least another 10 years. I was born just after the Cup was won the last time by the leafs.

I agree 100%. Ehlers had two major injuries that he was playing through and still was more engaged with puck pursuit then Nylander. After watching the "Final Four" it was becoming more and more evident that a 5 foot 8 players on Tampa Bay was more committed to laying their body on the line for the Cup then the leafs 6 foot players.
