If I'm Ottawa I take this deal. Let him play with Jimmy Stu and Connor Brown - rack up the points - and then move him out at the trade deadline for what could easily be a better return.

Idk about "rack up the points". I think he'll be good for Ottawa, but he's gonna drop hard in production

Bonino has some of the best defensive analytics in the league. If they want to be hard to play against, you literally can’t do better. Plus on a 1-2 year deal it won’t impact their cap.

Tatar was way underutilized in Montreal and will get a cheap deal because of it. He’d outproduce Buch and be cheaper

Sure, not having Panarin on his line could have that effect but I think Stutzle will break out this season and Strome is playing for a new contract. I'm confident if he stays healthy he'd be on pace for 60 points with Ottawa. Either way, I feel we could do better in the return than what we paid to get him - going by this deal.

19.5M to sign Fox, Zibs, Kakko, Georgiev, and Kravtsov next year is pretty rough.

I'd be elated if he put up 60 pts for Ottawa, but I'd be shocked. Also as a separate point, I doubt Ottawa is trading for him without intending on extending him.

yep! the max danault should get is 5.5, and that should be a shorter term deal, 4 years max in my opinion.

Why not? As long as it isn't costing them a 1st or any of the players they're considering part of the future. And, unless he's injured at the deadline, I can't imagine them getting back less than they gave up. Strome will be looking for $$ and term in his next deal and that should NOT come from Ottawa since both Norris and Pinto will be better than him by 2023.

I'm just saying I don't think Ottawa is in the trade market for a one year guy.

Bonino for 1 year of fine. I don’t want Tatar holding back the kids makes me cringe but yes I like Tatar and think he can be so much better
