The Boys Are Back in Town

Created by: Boush
Team: 2021-22 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2021
Published: Jul. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With Schultz and Kempny's single year deals, VAN gets $1mil of cap relief this season and $4mil the next three.

Kuzy and Monahan, I think, each just need a change of scenery. Not sure if this is fair value from Calgary's side, but even if it means giving up to a 1st round pick and mid-level prospect, I think the Caps should pull the trigger.

Would you be interested in Schmidt for orlov straight up? I know Schmidt had a bad year, but he admitted he didn’t wanna be there, that might’ve taken a toll on him mentally. When fully healthy and motivated, you know how good Schmidt can be, being a caps fan. Him and orlov are virtually the same player and I could see it working for both sides.

I would think Vancouver would have to add more there. Considering Schmidt makes almost 1M more per year and is signed for two years longer than Orlov. Also Orlov is maybe a tier above Schmidt imo unless Schmidt can prove he can regain his VGK and 2017 Caps form.

Fair, what could Vancouver add?

I don't see the Caps moving Orlov for anyone other than an undisputed top pair defenseman. They'd have to get a Dougie Hamilton-type player. Orlov is arguably the Caps best all-around defenseman. I love Schmidt, but I don't think he is quite in the same skill level as Orlov. Not a knock on Nate at all, he's top pairing on a lot of teams, but Orlov is an underrated guy.
