He'll need to average 33 goals over those five seasons to beat Gretzky's record.

He's playing for the record not the cup.

He can still put the puck in the net like no one else, but all the other things he stopped doing lowers his on-ice value overall. Poor contract but that was to be expected.

I don't think Washington really cares if this is a bad signing or not. He's their franchise.

Might be a bit too much term, but it'll be completely worth it if he breaks the all-time goal record in that time, and it means even more if he does it in a caps jersey.

Looking at the contract alone without considering the significance of the player, the term is a year or two long but I mean come on, it's Ovi, how could you not like that contract as a Caps fan

Hell yeah! Longer the term, the longer it’s likely for Ovi to stay in the NHL.

You think Ovi's contract really matters that much to us though? Yeah it's not great, but he keeps his current cap hit and I could care less tbh if it's good or not, he's staying

Looks like Ovi is dead set on that goals record, only injury can stop him now! The contract is quite rich for a player that’ll be 40 by the time it ends, so hopefully Ovechkin hasn’t lost his anti-aging serum or this could look bad in the last couple years.

The fact that he's staying and the value he's brought to this franchise over the years automatically makes it a good signing.

It's honestly a no brainer to finish his career in Washington so 5-year deal fine give him the chance to beat Gretzky's record, but 9.5 Million? I'm not so sure i'd give that to him for the next 5 years he's already 35. Who knows It might be a good deal for them.

said Caps homer looool of course only Caps fans think this is a good contract

The value he's brought to this team far outweighs what he's been paid and will be paid. It's basic economics, kid.
