Good veteran to help mentor Mailloux.

this is 500K too high but 2M too high for a 4th liner(cuz thats where he will play until injuries)

He is easy a 3rd liner .

He by far earned his contract last year and this is just a tad raise. He's at minimum a 3rd liner on nearly every team in the league

Whether he earned it or not, it's not a good one. I'd have been glad to see him get that much but on another team.

Grinders and guys who "play the game right" and have good playoffs are notorious for overpayments right after said playoffs.

He's an incredible fourth liner and a good third liner at his best. He is a valuable piece and certainly a better contract than Tanev or Goodrow.

Likely a good enough deal if the Habs don't approach a cap crunch. If they do this will feel rich

MTL rotate a lot the lines

If you look at TOI in playoffs, the pure RWs on the team were playing 1-2 mins more than Armia (Caufield 15, Gallagher 14, Anderson 14 and Armia 13).

He can be on a 4th line on paper, but he has a bigger role in the team

Anyone who watched the Habs run in the playoffs will know how important it was to resign Armia. HUGE for the penalty kill, great size, super versatile in the lineup. The Armia-Staal-Perry line was a puck possession monster all playoffs long. Love this deal.

Players like these are what win you the cup. You can't win cups paying your bottom 6 league minimum. Depth is how you win cups and he's a very good depth piece

He’ll likely play LW on KK’s line next year, since the habs do have a lot of right handed wingers.

Not necessarily league minimum, but fair value. This is more than fair value and it's not like you're buying prime years. Armia is slowly exiting his physical prime and will become a burden by year 2.5. If we were poised to be perennial contenders I'd have liked it more, but this is poor timing and poor cap space management.

Year 2.5 Byron will be off the cap and Armia will be a similar player (can play PK and anywhere in the bottom 9). It doesn't look good now with both of them here, but it works out in the ends. It's not perfect, but rarely does that ever occur

I don't dislike the player or the term, but this is that middle AAV that goes to middle 6 wingers where it's either an overpayment for a clear bottom 6 guy (Kerfoot, Kassian, Goodrow), or an excellent value deal for a guy who is clearly a top 6 winger (Donskoi, Toffoli, Danault).

A salary in the mid 3's to low 4's never seems just right, it just always seems off in one direction or the other, and if I had to guess in this case it's an overpayment going forward. I don't think Armia has some extra gear to make it a steal, and while he is good enough to make it not awful, I think you can get similar value on much less expensive contracts, and the problem ends up becoming having a player in this salary range who is overpaid by $1M often hurts your roster more than say a $8M player overpaid by a similar amount.

That’s possible, but you can’t judge how he’s going to turn out for the rest of the contract based on this season with Montréal. Everyone on the team’s numbers have taken a dive.
