With Dillon, Schmidt, and likely Heinola joining our d-core this year, have the Jets' defensive woes finally been addressed?

It was already reported that Schmidt wont waive to Winnipeg, Do people even bother to pay attention to the media?

Well they can’t be worse than last year! I think Schmidt could be the partner for Morrissey, and Pionk can excel with Dillon. Stanley should probably start the year on the third pair and Heinola would be the first call up.

It’s no Hamilton, but thank LW Chevy for fixing the D, even if it’s 2 years late lmao

Well he must have changed his mind, because it was reported a couple days ago that he wouldn't waive for Winnipeg.

Maybe but you have a top2 goaltender that can save your bacon if the defense is simply competent.
These moves are a step in the right direction. Overpayments, sure. But you need to outbid to gain assets that you really need. Flexibility is all well and good but to better 31 other teams, you must take risks all over the lineup. Schmidt has potential to bounce back after playing in a sytem that didn't agree with him. Dillon is a solid top 4 dman.

You should thank Ron Francis for NOT taking Demelo!
Appleton is fine but Demelo is legit top 4 puck mover, you just got another with Schmidt. This will make things much easier on a bunch of forwards that aren't great defensively like Scheifele and Connor.

They are now a good team!

I'm guessing WPG was his only suitor so Benning had to circle back when he initially said he wouldn't waive.

Nope, apparently it was stastny who got Schmidt to waive his NTC. The GOAT

It got better where they don’t have the worst defence in the Central

Went from one of the worst to one of the better bluelines. No one in the central is competing with COL though lol.

Jesus. Stastny is some kind of asset. Otherwise, I never saw Schmidt waiving for Winnipeg. Hell, I enjoy Winnipeg quite a bit. Never got the bad rap. I think, it's mostly, a Canada thing. Hockey guys just enjoy playing in obscurity.

Winnipeg is honestly fairly quiet when it comes to media. During media appearances there’s probably 8-9 reporters at most and they’re honestly not that hard on the players. So media isn’t an issue here, also they don’t usually get bothered when they’re out and about in the city. I see perreault all the time who’s a fairly well known jet and he’s hardly bothered, seen many players at the malls and have never seen them bothered. I think people just really don’t like how cold it gets and the taxes. The organization is top notch and anyone who’s been apart of it will say that, even the ones who left like laine.

Stastny continues to prove his worth on and off the ice, and very well could become a front office employee. A scout or another position along those lines. I thought Schmidt was a no go due to the NTC, but stastny apparently is the trade whisperer. Likely because of his two great stints with the organization and the city.

The PLD home depot heresay was pretty funny. Even, if Winnipeg is calmer than say Toronto or Montreal its not close to playing in an American city where ppl can only recognize Gretzky

I just hope Fleury retires like he’s expected to so Chicago can upgrade the left side

The PLD Home Depot thing had me dying. Like wtf lol, also yes, it’s nothing compared to US cities. It’s like Kane not tipping, or trouba doing coke at the bars 😂

Yeah the Winnipeg based media are pretty chilled.

TV: Orlesky (TSN), Reynolds (SN)
Radio: Moore (CJOB)
Print: Ates (Athletic), Billeck/Friesen (Sun), Brooks (GameOn), McIntyre/Bell (Free Press), Wiebe (SN) and a CP reporter sometimes

Only Friesen vs Wheeler after a loss generates any friction and even then it isn't that big of a deal. Wheeler tells Friesen to fork-off and they move on. lol

Yeah Jets media is pretty tame, genuinely good people and they ask good questions and don’t stir crap up.

Also friesen sometimes is a bit over the top with wheeler but like you say they just hash it out and then move on.

Hopefully some of the Winnipeg stigma starts to fade away.

Hahah, yeah that’s a tough sell for the tourism board. After living in Winnipeg my whole life, I might see things in a better light than others, but there’s a lot of good that comes with the city. It’s actually a fantastic place to live year round, great summers here. The winters are long and cold, but it’s refreshing! But hey, I get players don’t like the city and the taxes and the cold, and I wouldn’t blame them for wanting to live somewhere like florida over Winnipeg hah!
