Johnson is still a good player. Give him a spot as 2nd line C and he will score in accordance with it. His problem has been usage rather than the suggested narrative of rapid decline.

Chicago has made some questionable-to-terrible moves this off-season. This isn't one of them.

Time for more LTIR. Johnson will be missed in Tampa.

A lot of arguing about the salary cap and LTIR here, but I want to talk about the trade. The benefits for Tampa are obvious -- they were desperate to get rid of Johnson's cap hit and Seabrook's won't count against them -- but I'm surprised that Chicago was interested. With the moves they've made over the last couple of weeks it's clear that they're going for it, so why are they giving up most of their remaining cap space for another team's salary dump and only a 2nd round pick two years out? This puts them within $2.5M of the cap with still a couple of RFAs to sign, so they can't really afford to be taking other teams' salary dumps. Johnson did play well in the playoffs this year, so the Hawks must think he's still worth $15M over the next 3 years; otherwise they would have been better off to spend that cap space on something else.

Make an actual two level cap.

Above the first level pay a luxury tax can't go above the next level. Make it like 20% above the first one.

For every aav 5% over the cap pay a dollar in luxury tax, every $ 5-10% over pay $2 in luxury tax, 10-15% $3, and 15-20% $4

Money goes to the small revenue or something teams so they can afford to spend and compete.

Or something like that.

So roughly
Min cap 60 mil
Luxury tax cap 84 mil
Max 100 mil

Luxury taxes hurt small market teams more than big market teams, as seen in the MLB. It will allow reach teams to spend up and quality players will leave for better money offered from the top market teams

I think (I am happy to be corrected) that is because they don't have the second ceiling.

You know what, I say fair deal. While that cap hit isn't ideal, Tyler Johnson is still a good player and will contribute positively to the Blackhawks, plus they get a 2nd round pick as a nice bonus, while the Lightning get some much needed LTIR cap relief
