Re-tooling the Caps

Description
Caps were interested in Raanta. I'd like that signing if the contract is right.

Vinnie is a good bottom 6 spark plug.

Djoos seems like a good value depth signing at this point. Good insurance for injuries or if someone's game goes to hell.

This scenario actually gives us a little cap space to work with at the deadline, if we need to make some changes.

McCabe and Jensen look to mesh well on paper. McCabe is a little more involved offensively than Jensen, but Jensen moves the puck better. Seems like it could be a good fit.

I could see the Caps re-signing Chara again too, though. Due to his size, toughness and PK ability.

This is some good thinking although I might be in the minority but I want Hagelin to stay. I know he doesn't score much but that 4th line has been awesome, I wouldn't mess with it.

I agree, that 4th line has been great. But damn is he expensive for an older 4th liner. I think Vinnie could be a better investment moving forward being several years younger, and probably gotten cheaper. I wouldn't be upset though if Hagelin stayed through this year.

Probably, but his underlying numbers have still been pretty solid, especially for a guy that's going to be near a vet minimum. I'd throw him an offer, see if he wants to stay.

Yeah good thinking here I agree - only thing is - Raanta for 3 years might be a stretch, especially since he has been battling consistent injuries. But overall I would be pleased if this happened. Loving the almost $3 mil for the trade deadline

For sure, the injuries to Raanta make me nervous. I think adding the third year keeps his AAV down. It seems like he's going to Carolina though anyway, unfortunately. Very curious to see the contract he gets, he was a bit hard to gauge for contracts. He's borderline elite when he's fully healthy and locked in, but not healthy often enough.

And it would certainly be nice to have some cap space for once on the Caps! grin

That's a good deal, IMO. Cheap. If he can stay healthy, steal. Worth the gamble at that price.

He also led the teams forwards in SH/TOI on the 5th best PK in the league that already lost Dillon and Chara on the back end.

Doesn't look like the Caps can lose him anyway without giving up assets and thinking AJF is able to perform a similar role. Bulk of the worthwhile free agents are gone now.
