A bit much for a 34 year old defensemen but it’s only 3 years so it shouldn’t hurt that bad

When you have the chance to sign a 34-year old declining 2nd pairing defender to an overpay and too much term with a modified NTC, you just gotta do it. Have to, man.

I'm surprised he got 3 years despite being 34. This contract is well worth it for year 1. It will most likely be fair in year 2 and then bad in year 3. It fits Vega's window so I will say good deal.

It's ok, Vegas will probably trade him away for nothing to sign another player to a bigger contract...

See: MAF, Schmidt, Stastny, Miller, PAC...

Good deal for an experienced, solid 2nd pair defenseman. He is on the decline, but I think having a veteran like Martinez on your team is key. Good signing.

Good deal for a solid 2nd pair D though there are concerns over his age

That's too much money because of Martinez's age, but at least the term is reasonable. Anything more than three years would've made this contract terrible.

fine AAV but I'm not a huge fan of the three years. don't be surprised if his offense dips in year two or three, these are the contracts you need to sign when you are a cup contender.

Declining? he just had a career year in every statistical category, it will be fine for the first year maybe two then it could start to look rough.

It's ok, McCrimmon will trade him next offseason and Alec will find out about it on his myspace feed.

Why would they stop, they are getting away with it (no buyout, no retain salary trade)

Because it could damage the team reputation and scare away free agent without an NTC.

Not the best sell pitch: "We want you on our team... Until we find better! "

he plays a great defensive game too so if he keeps that up, even if his points start declining, not a horrible deal for vegas

Not too bad for Martinez, he’s a very good defenseman so it should be worth it for about the first two years

After what Vegas did to Fleury, one of the nicest guy in the league, I wish them the WORST.
