I do think this is a fair contract, I just don't like it along with the rest of Edmonton's dcore

If the Oil had actual goaltending, this would be good. However it's a terrible fit.

It's not bad. But I voted no, because Edmonton needs something else.

He's an elite offensive defenseman who is flawed defensively, being paid second pairing money. This is now all on the coach being able to properly utilize a very talented but limited player. I think its a very fair deal

I can see what there doing here, they have a player that worked well with team and they don't want to give that up, but Bouchard is the biggest loser from this deal cuz he won't get to be on 1st pp

Wish the Canes got him. Good deal despite the fact he can't play defense.

With enough offensive depth up front now, I'm hopeful they'll actually finally rotate D men to play 1 min each out there on a second unit. You know...if the coaching staff was thinking clearly.

He’s an important part of that team (powerplay wise). If they had a better defensive system then this would be fine. But as of right now it’s one of those “good player, bad fit” type scenarios.

Barrie played some of the kindest minutes in the league last year. At some point the public will have a better understanding of the tangible impact of zone deployment. By then Barrie will look incredibly poor. Even his production isn't really above expectation considering his usage. Another contract where Edmonton thinks they're smart, but in reality they just have yet another guy putting up numbers without the team winning.

Yes, Barrie is one of the worst defensive dmen in the league. But given what he does, this is a very reasonable contract, both in terms of price and length.

It's actually a pretty good deal given the lens of how utterly abysmal the Oilers' offseason has been BUT:

You offered Barrie and Ceci a rumoured total of $8M AAV. I really want to know why we needed two hit-or-miss guys on the back end for that price, possibly neither being able to defend, when we could have just had Dougie Hamilton and a journeyman bottom-pairing guy.

The CF vote is puzzling. Barrie is awful and a 3rd pair dman who can be decent on the powerplay. Easy to tell who only looks at point and dont watch the games or look under the hood.

This is a terrible signing for EDM. Nurse is almost as good on the PP as Barrie and they desperately needed a more defensive defenseman to compete with the better teams. The AAV is not bad. It's just not what EDM needs right now.

Someday they'll figure out going all-in on scoring isn't a recipe for success. Give them another 10 years or so.

That said, I don't mind this contract for a 3rd pairing PP specialist that puts up those kinds of numbers. The problem is having the guys in front and behind to take the minutes you don't want him on the ice for.

becuase when you put him on the PP and he gets you 48 points in 56 games it shouldn't matter that he doesn't defend like a Norris trophy winner, you do still need to score to win games defence isn't absolutely everything.
