Why did they buyout Holtby just to sign a goalie arguably worse than him? Benning is so clueless man

I really don't think Halak is going to bounce back that well especially with the top pair having OEL(who is very ungood), but it's only for a year and he shouldn't be terrible either. Eh, it's alright.

Halak has put up 91,9% and 90,5% in the past 2 years.

Holtby was sub 90 in both.

Who played behind Boston and who played behind Vancouver? Halak was the 3rd goalie for Boston at the end of last season.

Good veteran back up goalie. I would've liked him a bit cheaper, but he'll be better than Holtby in VAN.

Halak's AAV is 3 Million and Holtby is 500k this year and 1.5 Next.

Vancouver is paying 3.5 Million for a backup this year and 1.5 Million for nothing next year.

Boston didn't have good defense at all, especially this year lol, what are you on about. And Demko did just fine with Vancouver.

Obviously Benning is not a fan of analytics ( i dont agree with much of it). On paper this looks very good, but Kevin Woodley (goalie scout) ripped apart Halaks game- and how it translates with the Canucks defense....it wasnt good. The type of chances the Canucks give up....are Halaks weakness. thankfully its only 1 year.

His cap his will end up being $2,750,000 at minimum.

He has a $1,250,000 bonus for 10 games played.
And then a $250,000 bonus for 0.905+ SV%.

He'll likely play 10 games. I don't see Demko playing 73.

And if the bonus puts them over the cap it will be on their cap next year.

So they might end paying $3,000,000 in Holtby + Halak penalties next year.

You're forgetting they also have DiPietro who might make the step next year.

Low risk signing and I think they'll be happy if you're paying the bonuses because that means Halak is playing well.
