For two years, it’s not a bad signing. Cap hit is a tad high but he did solid on a bad Detroit team so I can’t imagine him being any worse?

As a Red Wings fan, the Devils got a good one in Bernier. He was the best player on the team from late 2019 until now, making stops like nobody else could behind our defense. Good luck to Bernier in NJ!

It's arguably if this is a good contract (to me it is, cause NJ have a lot of cap space and Bernier is a good veteran goalie). But it's undeniable that THE GREATEST LOSER here is Carolina. One of the most stupid trades that I've ever seen.

overpayment for sure but management seemed to want a solid 1B for Blackwood and were willing to spend to get one. They did the exact same thing with Crawford last year but he ended up retiring on them.

They could overbid for him and it was smart to do so.
