Trading Kaprizov Fiala and Dumba

Created by: MNBassman

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2021
Published: Jul. 28, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Signing Danault might make one of the Kings’ you centers (or two) now available. I haven’t taken the time to examine LA’s cap situation…
Wild fans…please save your “there is now way the Wild are trading Kaprizov after waiting for him to come over for 100 years crap! No one is untouchable if a GM is truly doing their job. With that said, I realize this is never gonna happen.

Dude overreactions much? You traded kaprizov for lesser players , and prospects. In addition Minnesota doesn't need anymore d prospects. Trading both players for nothing is holy overreaction. So you also gave dumba to kings for no reason

Probably a good time to trade KK and Fiala. Save us the pain of watching him sign a 3 year deal this October and being traded away. BG would be setting up his replacement nicely haha

It fits perfectly with how GMGB does things. Young players for nothing, signs old guys, and destroyed the cap. Chia is better than this joke of a GM.

It’s not an overreaction, I’m looking for ways the Wild can survive cap hell the next 4 years and time it with a very talented, very deep team. If my values are off, please offer suggestions.

Short answer is they can't survive the cap crunch and will be in the tank within 2 years.

Not sure why LA is looking to get older when they are only just coming out of their rebuild.

I’ve said since the day they hired BG that strike one against him was simply being stupid enough to take the job! In his defense (now) he had and has his hands tied with the cards he was dealt. I like the fact that he is rebraking the bone so it can heal properly. We fans just need to be patient…this team is still a looong ways away…with or without Kaprizov, Fiala, and Dumba…

Right - so why waste the prime years of these 3 for nothing???

Fenton had it lots closer than GMBG does now. No awful Sprugeon deal, more young FWDs like Kunin and Donato filling out the roster to go with Fiala and Kaprizov.

Patience is fine, but this is a 7+ year rebuild, not a wait it out until the cap becomes manageable and go for it then.

Fiala wouldn't get you either Seider or Edvinsson. You're way overvaluing Fiala.

More proof they should consider trading these players!

He would certainly be very, very close to getting either of them. He’s unbelievably talented!!

So what year are they into a rebuild now? Eventually this team is no longer in a rebuild and is just Bad, see Buffalo Sabers...

The Suter/Parise signings did a lot of good for a team that was terrible before they were signed. But they never did enough to be a truly elite team in the playoffs. So even with this "rebuild on the fly" is this actually year 1 coming up?

Well we decline anyways, neither are available. Yzerman already said that Mo Seider is one of our untouchables.

It shouldn't have been that's my main problem. Yes the Parise/Suter deals hurt, but it was manageable. I'd rather have Suter than paying Goligoski the same money (more if he re-signs) for instance. Parise was a vastly overpayed bottom-6er, but it ends up costing more to replace him in the lineup than have him.

Would the team win the Cup, probably not, but it would be good hockey and a better chance than they've ever had.

If you can figure out how to make them truly and sustainably competitive without taking (yet another) step backwards, I’d love to see it.
I completely get your point…but something dramatic needs to be done if the Wild are to ever be a legitimate Cup contender!!

They had a quazi-rebuild with Fenton. To where this should have been a good team, and a center away from a really good team. Now it's just a bad team with 1 great player (Kaprizov).

I’m not arguing with any of your points, but the fact is, this team cannot possibly compete for the Cup for 3-4 years so why not take this time to build something sustainable (for the first time in franchise history!!) and potentially special?!

You mean like BUF, AZ, EDM, etc? They've been in a rebuild forever and never got out. McDavid, Drais and Eichel (for instance) are special talents and they've been stuck on garbage teams with nothing around them. All the bad years, high draft picks, etc have amounted to jack and squat for them.

It's kind of is. Take a step back. So you want rebuilding but forgetting wild also have good players like spurgeon, and brodin. I mean teams don't trade players in their prime. Am I mad about Menell, yes but this is very much a reaction to the trade today and

At this point, burn it to the ground and move the team to Texas. So much has already been done to make this mess there isn't a good way out.

As far as the cap goes. Spurgeon has to go after this season. His buyout would last forever, but it's not a bad cap hit; a trade would be better. I'd probably trade Dumba too. That would open up $15m or so with Rask gone too.

Zucc is another one that I'd look at moving, even if it's with a little retained and spend a 2nd to do it. He really depends on if Boldy is all that and a bag of cookies next season or not.

The Spurgeon contract pisses me off. I’ve taken tons of flak on other platforms for voicing that, but I’m with you on that being a piss poor signing. His trade value was astronomical, but we opted for the overpay and threw a NMC bow on top.

I’d happily dump Zucc and Dumba next year as well. I get that the FA pool wasn’t great this year, but what a brutal state for this franchise to be in. Two premiere players that we can’t seem to sign, and sure as **** can’t surround with talent.
