Aside from re-signing Pionk, the Jets are likely done with adding big contracts to the defensive group. If Copp wanted $3.75 million AAV, the Jets would sign him.

how much do you think his contract would be?

I am going to guess that when all is said and done it is $4.5 million x 4 years. Sportsnet wrote his AAV should be above $4 million irrespective of what term is settled on and Evolving Hockey has his most likely contract at $5.1 million x 4 years (which I think is too high). I think Copp should get something below Blake Coleman's $4.9 million, as the team would be buying one RFA year (rest UFA years) instead of all UFA years.

45-1 for Jets to win the cup, obviously everything would basically have to be perfect, but I think there’s some decent value there, a rebound of Dubois, a chip on the shoulder of Schmidt could make this team kind of interesting.

This is one of the saner offers for Bertuzzi.

Your timing is slightly off though, Detroit have now filled their hole on RD and Liljegren, alhough still interesting, is no longer a pressing need.

If you added Alex Steeves we would have a hard time saying no, as long as we can find a replacement for Bert somewhere else without which he won't be traded at all.

That's why I always had mikheyev is that trade, just to fill the void for the year, plus I think he's better than he gets credit for.

Red wing fans have no business ever saying "leaf fans overvalue their players." To think Bertuzzi is worth a 1st, high end prospect, 2 2nds and a roster player is insanity. He's a 50 point winger with a history of injury. This package should get a much better player. When people joke that wings fans think Bertuzzi is worth Matthews, this is why.

Have you ever considered the possibility that a player might be valued differently depending on the needs of a team?

Detroit does NOT have anyone to replace Bertuzzi with.
Therefore he is a very important player to Detroit that cannot be traded unless the return is a massive overpay.

Why is it so ****ing hard to understand such simple concepts that normal 4-year olds don't usually have any problems with?

The OP have him playing on the top line. If you want to trade for a top line player you pay top line prices!

Detroit is going to be a bottom 5 team for years, they need draft picks and prospects until they aren't the worst team in the league. If Bertuzzi is your best winger, thats a problem only fixed by good drafting.

They are probably near the bottom of the standings for the next 2-3 years but just because that's the case doesn't mean you just give guys away for nothing. Right now Bertuzzi is invaluable to detroit.
That did about Detroit, they will still have the same amount of playoff series wins as Toronto come the time they make playoffs.

This package above is a huge overpay and can hardly be considered nothing

No that's a pretty good return, I was just talking in general most people don't have good returns.

Sometimes but this site seems to be filled with fans who want insane returns for all their players. Bertuzzi isn't a top flight talent. A good player sure, but is he really a top line elite player? Not even close. A good top 6 winger? Probably. On a good team he may be a middle 6 winger. So wing fans thinking he's going to get a grade A prospect, a 1st and either another high pick or a B prospect are out to lunch. A first should do it.

Doesn't matter what he is on a different team, on Detroit he's a top line winger and we have no one that can jump up to replace him right now. That's why it will take what would be viewed as an overly excessive return.

This has literally been explained in this thread already.
