Initial Creation Date: Jul. 29, 2021
Published: Jul. 29, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pens flip the last year of Rust, Marcus Pettersson and a 2nd to STL for Tarasenko
One for one with Chicago, with so little options left for goalies for Chicago and Fleury threatening to retire, Hawks get a 1b option in Jarry locked up for 2 years who has a bit more drive to play for them
Hextall convinces Tatar to take a low-end one year deal to bolster his free agency value next year with the privilege of playing beside Geno and Tarasenko

Imagine Jarry on the Penguins, but for a $6.5M cap hit. For all the reasons PIT fans are desperate to dump Jarry...those are the reasons the Hawks don't want Jarry.

I'd love to see it happen, but the "insiders" are saying the Pens won't be going for Fleury as he "doesn't fit into the plans"

7 mill actually, but then goes back to 3.5 next year. They either have to pay an asset to get another goalie or sign a low end UFA

Very fair, not sure Pens would pay more than that 3rd in 2023

I'd be looking for a second, retaining 3.5 is a big chunk of change, but to each their own.

Oh Jesus. I thought he was $3M. I'm fine with waiting the summer and having Kane/Toews go talk to him. $7M for Jarry...I'd rather A.) terminate MAF contract but also We can go sign Saad then. B.) keep his rights all year long until a serious offer came. If MAF sits out...ok he sits out. The Hawk Legend MAF will never be forgotten. Shaw's LTIR we can pick either pick of a goalie or do what we did last year. Subban is still on the team.

2022 1st or bust for me. Would you rather have Jarry for $7M in net or a guy like Saad?

ARZ would take cheaper to hold 3.5 in a 3 team trade

It'll cost you at least a 2nd though. Doesn't look like AZ picks up the phone these days unless the words...I have a 2nd rounder come out before hello. (5) 2nd round picks next year.

Saad isn't coming back and if we are supposedly contending (and to be honest I believe that we have thrown away our future these past few weeks) I would rather spend that money on a goalie.

Jarry isn't that guy though. What's wrong with Tuukka Rask?

I would take a flyer on him, disastrous playoffs and all. I would think he is the best goalie available for trade or free agency right now. I was hoping the hawks would sigh Rittich as a backup plan for MAF because he's another goalie coming off a down year that could rebound.

He's 25, had a bad playoff, .909 last year and an all-star the year before: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=145157
There's not much more available at that level

I think all hawks fans are in agreement that we would rather have MAF then Jarry, but I think acquiring him is a solid option should MAF not report and we don't have to pay for him.

He's injured, but certainly a choice.

Yeah, if he'll sign in Chicago, he's most likely a better option than Jarry for 7 mill

I think there's an option we are all forgetting here, and it rhymes with Gorey Grawford.

He might not too. I'm not saying I have anything guaranteed or a crystal ball. I just don't like Jarry for $7M unless some REAL assets are coming with. I said the 1st. Maybe make it a 2nd and conditional in case of an injury to someone to ensure it's not a lottery pick?
