Kaprizov isn't gone, he just hasn't been re-signed yet. That hardly means he's bolted.

And as far as Goligoski goes, it's a one year contract. It's hardly world shattering. Besides, it was reported by Michael Russo that the expectation is that he could sign an extension after January 1st for roughly $2M, instead of signing a multi year contract at $3.5M+ aav.

Given that we have $12M in dead cap starting next year, it's actually a savvy way to get around the cap.

Gotcha. I'd say there's a 99.99% chance that's just his camp trying to leverage more money out of Minny, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't be too concerned at this point.

Those are bullsh*t...

He was given a contract offer by them. But he hasn't signed it. Moreover he's still talking to Guerin, and they're set to meet within the next week to discuss it over some more.

The assumption is that Kaprizov will play in Minnesota until he actually signs in Moscow. But if he does that, he probably gives up on a big money NHL deal in a couple years. If he does sign a 3 year deal, that’s incredibly valuable. We get the option to play with him or trade him on a value contract for multiple years, after seeing what Jones got that’s not a bad thing.

Always follow the money. If Kaprizov wants an 80 mil contract, he needs to stay in the NHL. Signing in Russia would probably cost him somewhere in the realm of 40 mil. Let him play hardball all he wants, but it would be tragic for Kirill to actually play in Russia right now.

If he will sign more than 8.2M for example 10M... than in season 2023 you have 10+14 = 24M and just one player, i think buyout of Parise and Suter was a big mistake for future of minnesota.

He was offered $8.5M on a 8 year contract and turned it down. Not because it was too low, but because it was too long. His dispute isn't the money, or I should say the money right now, but the length of term. He wants to go short term, Guerin and the Wild want to go long term.

That's the divide.

Kaprizov's agent Paul Theofanous is trying to get his client signed on a 3 year deal that will take him to UFA where he can then cash in on a $10M+ contract once he’s more established in the NHL and the cap will likely have gone up in a few years. He's not getting that kind of money on a shorter term contract. He's projected to get $6.5M on a 1-3 year deal, $7-7.5M on a 4-6 year deal, and $8-9M on a 7-8 year.

We would be able to afford him on a mid-length contract. We would more or less be just like Toronto or Edmonton, heavy on the top six but low on depth player.

We could survive but would be reliant on league minimum deals and ELC's to offset the dead cap hits.

Not to mention that’s the last thing his agent wants. His 10% looks a lot nicer in the NHL than the KHL, assuming he’d even get a cut for the CSKA signing. It’s a negotiation tactic, but make no mistake, he absolutely wants his client signing here.
