All the good goalies in FA have now been signed. If we were to strike something on the goalie market, my first choice would be Fleury. That honestly comes down to Chicago, but I would love to get him back. If he really is unavailable, I feel like the 2 others Hextall targets are Khudobin and Quick.
Trades
1.
PIT
John Gibson
ANA
His name was in trade talks at some point, but that has calmed down. I think the price would be way too high, but if we seriously have no trust in our tandem, he is a solid option. Also a Pittsburgh native, so might motivate him even more.
2.
PIT
Darcy Kuemper
ARI
Really wanted him, but after seeing his return, I am glad we stayed away.
3.
PIT
Marc-Andre Fleury
CHI
If MAF commits to his "I am not playing here", I would do everything to strike a deal. At that point, any Chicago acquires for him is free return, so they should consider it. I would love MAF back.
4.
PIT
Joonas Korpisalo
CBJ
Not really the type of guy we are targeting. We want more of a veteran presence, so I wouldnt go for Korpi.
5.
PIT
Anton Khudobin
DAL
After signing Holtby, I think Khudobin is in play. His contract isnt the most enticing, but I think he could do a solid job for us. It would depend on the return, but cap might make it difficult.
6.
PIT
Jonathan Quick
LAK
Obvious link to Hextall. He has really regressed in the past couple seasons, but he does bring a veteran presence and experience.
7.
PIT
Alex Georgiev
NYR
Another young decent option, but not what the team wants.
If Chicago moves MAF because he's not playing, my guess is Chicago will retain 1/2 his salary and then get a real asset back from Pit so wouldn't be for free.
If PIT can take $7M in cap I think you're right. If they can't...expect to give CHI picks. If you want to send cap back AND Hawks retain...expect to send really good picks.

No, I am not saying it would be for free. I am saying since Chicago got MAF for free, anything they trade him for is also essentially a free return. Didnt phrase it right I guess.

I would maybe think Fleury @50% for Jarry and maybe a little bit more.. If we rather send DeSmith than I would add more pieces.

Just make sure to consider the Hawks side of this.
$7M for Jarry (a goalie Pens fans are actively dumping on and going out of their way to trade) is not good at all. That's a $7M backup goalie. Its twice the cap he has now and PIT is trying to replace him. The 2022 1st comes with and likely more.
If MAF refuses...the Hawks would more likely terminate and go talk to Crow or Rask. BUT I hope MAF stays. He'll like it in CHI.
