This may be one of the worst ideas I have ever seen. I think people tend to forget how good Marner is. Facebook Uncle Moment.

The point is having 3 tops lines you can run in all situations and have an offensive threat on each line. It is not to say the Marner line now gets less time then the top 2, its more of a talent spread so you have 3 good lines which can be good on defense and strong offensively. Look at the gourde, goodrow, coleman line. Was TB "3rd line in theory" but played equal minutes with the top 2 in the playoffs. All 3 of those guys will now go play top 6 on their new teams. So instead of running 4 lines at 20 min, 20 min, 12 min, 8 min. It would be 17 min, 17 min, 17 min, 9 min on average. You give the teams more lines to defend against and not overplay guys as well. Shut down Matthews line here comes JT, shut that down one and here comes Marner. You have to think past the traditional 3rd line role and look at the 3 lines more as a 1A, 1B, 1C option and look past assignments. With the limited cap space to build and effective third its an out of the box approach.
