Not really. Its miles better than last years team. A team like the Leafs doesn't need to sign any of the big fish. They improved their depth, which is exactly what they needed. Bunting is a slam dunk, and the Leafs have a few prospects ready to go (eg. Robertson, potentially Gogolev, Liljegren). Not too shabby

LW is comically bad, but the other positions aren't terrible.

Lol I thought Dubas was nuts when he signed Tavares to that contract. How many years has islanders made it to the conference finals since he left?!! Having him let 2/3 quality players not fill that depth.

is this team really that much worse than last year lol

The only downgrade is Hyman to Bunting, which is nothing against Bunting because I love the guy but its damn near impossible to replace Hyman. If Mikheyev gets moved, Kampf will likely fill his role. Leafs have done well this offseason, but because we didnt sign Landeskog and Hamilton Leafs fans will see it as an L

depending how each player performs, bunting at 950K might actually be better than hyman at $5.5M lol

hyman played his first pro season age 24-25, split between the marlies (37p in 59gp) and the leafs (6p in 16gp). Age 25-26 he was stapled to matthews playing 17 mins a night and only had like 28 points

bunting has been playing pro since 2015, when he was 20. He scored 25p in 63gp, 28p in 67gp, 43p in 67gp, 41p in 52gp then 49p in 58gp. This past season he lit up the AHL with 19p in 16gp then graduated to the NHL at the same age hyman did (25) and scored 13p in 21gp playing 16 minutes a night

the leafs might have a gem and look like absolute geniuses for scooping this guy up. He turned down 5-6 other offers and took less to play in toronto lol

Completely agree. Bunting is already one of my favourite Leafs. Obviously as of now Hyman is better than Bunting, but with the contract Hyman just signed, I'm glad we don't have him. Bunting looks better at age 25 than Hyman did at the same age. Stoaked to watch this guy play, hopefully its up on the top line.
