Different MAF Jarry option

Created by: exo2769
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2021
Published: Jul. 30, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
CHI
  1. Jarry, Tristan ($1,750,000 retained)
  2. 2022 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
It's ironic that MAF makes literally double what Jarry makes...and Jarry has two years vs one. They both have $7M in cap space. IF PIT wants MAF and Jarry has to be part of it...then keep it cap neutral. Retain $3.5M for $3.5M.

The 4th is because MAF is just alot better. It SHOULD be more than a 4th. Jarry's .906 isn't exactly getting hawks fans excited AT ALL. BUT the Hawks got MAF for nothing. So this solves the cap issues.
PIT
  1. Fleury, Marc-André ($3,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Hawks don't even want to do this trade. We want to keep MAF. However, this won't negatively impact the Hawks...which I know isn't what PIT fans want. They expect $3.5M in retention means literally nothing, which is crazy. Retention is just dead cap space.

It's not really the point of the post, but I do want to send Dach to wing. From what I've seen, his skill set is made to be along the boards. The puck is like a magnet to his stick. He has elements of Hossa to his game.

As to the point of the post, I think the hawks want more... if retaining 3.5 million only gets us a 4th (because IMO deal is structured like MAF for Jarry+) then let some under the cap team like buffalo jump at that chance. Not sure I agree on Dach, but I'm open to anything that improves the team.

I definitely think MAF should get more. $3.5M in dead cap is no joke. It's a ton of cap space and the Hawks want to win. I hear ya on Dach. I really just want to see him back on the ice.

I would rather let Maf retire. Jarry stinks

Me too. I just wanted to post what is technically a cap neutral trade. This definitely hurts the Hawks in a lot of ways. That 2022 1st going to CBJ would certainly be a better pick if we lose MAF and add Jarry (backup)

Honestly, Jarry doesn't stink. I'd be happy for the Pens to keep him, but time is the issue. Watching Jarry, he has serious ability and while he's 26, he's only played the equivalent of one full season and this year was his first as a starter in the playoffs, so he's still developing at the NHL level. Will he get better? Obviously nobody knows, but I personally think he will. The Pens just don't have the luxury of time to find out since the window is all but closed.

Jarry makes sense to a team starting to become a playoff team.

I think this is a fair assessment. There are soo many pieces to this trade. If the Hawks win more this year...that 2022 1st going to CBJ becomes "less bad". I really think the Hawks want MAF to play. I want him to play for the Hawks. I don't want to trade him away.

I think it goes without saying I totally endorse Dach on the wing. He’s built for it and he hasn’t taken to center in the show at all. Only things I’d change about these lines is keeping Kane and cat together and separate toews and Dach. That second one isn’t a huge priority, but it’s good to have defensive forwards on each line.
