Didn't realize he was still around the NHL/AHL. Good for him
Yep! Captain of the Griffins for 2 years, Alternate since 2015. Over 500 games played with them. Considering the fungibility of AHL players, and the veteran limit rule, it’s actually tough to stick around that long in the AHL.
Likely won’t be seeing many games with Detroit - a couple perhaps to get some extra money for him (otherwise why sign him to an NHL deal instead of an AHL one).
I find it hilarious that his contract was sent there in the 3-way Savard deal, but he just stayed in Grand Rapids as if nothing happened
Probably involved Tampa paying the remaining salary he was owed. I'm not going to look it up, but I think he was getting paid a total of $300k-400k last season. That's a fairly rich AHL deal.

I've seen it happen before. I remember when the Leafs traded Phaneuf to Ottawa, Matt Frattin went with him, but the Sens let him stay playing for the Marlies.

If its a two way deal, thats the only logic I can see. If its a one way deal then they'll pay him min NHL money even in the AHL (750k, which is more than typical max AHL money which I think is in the 400k ish range I believe)
