Insanely hard pass from Detroit. Koskinen is a cap dump, Marody is a garbage prospect. It would cost more than the 3rd alone to take Koskinen off your books, let alone sending back an asset in Greiss.

Add Foegele and I might have a look at Koskinen.

I am not saying Koski is the solution but both goalies on expiring deals and real money is almost identical....

Top AHL scorer and a Pick for an expiring contract isnt great, but not a bad return....make the pick a 2nd I don't care but the goalie trade market is a weird place. Kuemper for a high prospect and a first and MAF for free....anyone really know goalie values??

Besides the issue of greiss apparently not wanting to play in Canada don’t really see as an upgrade worth pursuing. Kosk isn’t nearly as bad as people around here make him out to be. He’s overpaid but is capable of the job that’s where I think people get mistaken viewing as if just a cap dump.

Fancy stats show Koskinen to be a middle of the road NHL backup goaltender. For those who watch the Oilers, the eye test suggests Koskinen is good for between 25-30 starts and will be outstanding in 2-3 of those, average for most, and absolutely atrocious (single handedly lose the game) on occasion. His last season exemplifies both measurements. He had to carry the load for the first dozen or so games and he was brutal, when Smith returned Koskinen's stats were close to the top-end among NHL goaltenders, then after a lengthy period without play he faltered and cost the Oilers a few games. Its his inconsistency that concerns fans, but by and large he is not as bad as most people make him out to be. I think his cap hit, and the availability of comparable talent make it very difficult to move him.

Thing about the early struggles he did go threw that doesn’t get brought up much if at all is the entire team was out of sequence not a single d was able to connect with passes on any sort of consistency missing assignments leaving the slot WIDE open. It was a disaster and kosks numbers from last year were really effected by that he’s not a guy that will make up for questionable defensive play but will hold his own just fine more often then not if everyone else is doing there part. One option we should watch out for is what happens if skinner shows up to camp and looks ready for his opportunity? If he looks equal to kosk capability is it better for him to then get sent down or stay with the big club training staff and have two seasons with smith? If the replacement comes internally and for as cheap as skinner should be that will allow us to retain on any kosk trade to a team that sees an injury during camp. I doubt too many teams would gamble the way we did last year starting without smith. Kosk on his final year will look very attractive in that situation. As it stands right now kosk is the best option and not a bad one to have.
