probably best for both sides. He gets more than league min, kings don’t give term to a guy they’re not sure of (the other realistic option would probably be 2x900k-950k)

It makes sense. He doesn't need to worry about the two-way part of it anymore since he's no longer waiver exempt. The Kings won't risk demoting him. Since he had minimal time in the NHL last season, he hasn't really made a case for a better contract. This way he can showcase his talents over a full season, then be an arbitration eligible RFA next summer when he can push for a better contract with more money and term. If he signed a longer term deal now, he'd be leaving money on the table in the later years.
