Semyon Varlamov for a future first and a cap dump that half of your fellow Edmonton adherents are buying out? Plus Islanders adding a year-earlier third?

Take a look at the Darcy Kuemper trade. That suggests Edmonton's 2022 first, 2023 third conditional on the Oilers winning the Stanley Cup in 2022 or 2023, and Philip Broberg.

Edmonton was in on that trade and it was too much to pay so they didnt do the Deal. Connor Timmins is not Broberg, he is a B Grade prospect, Broberg is touted as a future Victor Hedman. We are Talking Samorukov and a first here.

varlamov is also a much better goalie than kuemper and the islanders have no need to trade him.

You can certainly argue reasonably that Broberg is an overpay, but how can you legitimately contend that Varlamov should get less than Kuemper? Samorukov is nothing like Timmins, not to mention the conditional pick.

duh he’s a better goalie than koskinen also, but that’s not a high bar. comparing this to the darcy kuemper trade, the islanders should get more in return for varly, since he’s better than both of them by a lot.

Samorukov is a player almost identical to Alexander Romanov with more size. A conditional 3rd round pick would be valid to make it equal value to the kuemper trade. For the record though I dont think edmonton can afford a 5 million dollar goaltender next year so this trade isnt reality, 3 Million max is their budget for next year.

I get what you're saying re: Kuemper and don't disagree. But from Edmonton's POV, here's how I look at it:

At the beginning of this past season Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant the that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule (12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones) which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation. With that in mind, I took a look at his last 2 seasons combined, but I pulled those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances.

His save percentage over the past 2 years was .916, which isn't far off Kuemper (.919) or Varlamov (.921). Since both this guys are 1 year rentals and only mild upgrades over Koskinen, I don't think it's worth your ask to make this move from Edmonton's perspective. Obviously Holland agrees with me too, because he didn't outbid Sakic for Kuemper the other day.

So while I understand your ask, I would respectfully decline the trade at this time.

The whole reason Kuemper was so much was edmonton bid it up to there. They really wanted him but wouldn’t go that far.

I have a feeling they will stick it out with koskinen and smith. Bring skinner in if he out plays koskinen. But with the moves made it’s hard not to get solid goalie. Korpisalo seema like the only answer that may work so wise for a bit.

Korpisalo isn't as good as Koskinen, so I don't see him as an "answer" at all. I think they'll go with Smith-Koskinen too.
