Wild Center Idea

Description
So this is my Idea for a center. First on Nick Schmaltz, I think he is a real good player who has proven to be able to play with other great players (Patrick Kane, Clayton Keller etc...). I think he would be a great add at center.

Now Im sure many wild fans look at the price it takes to get him in my trade and nearly puke. However hear me out. What the Wild get here is cap space over a 5 year period which I feel is the Kaprizov window to win. Having a Top 6 center at under 3 mil will be massive for the teams depth and overall quality through that time. Boldy is a massive loss and is gonna absolutly suck to lose. But think, with the deals to Kaprizov and Fiala and 15 mil of dead cap, The wild will struggle to hold onto everyone. Not to mention the wild already have plenty of LW's for that window so in a way he is expendable. And for their trouble they get some late round shots in the dark to try to get a steal. And for the yotes, They get an absolute boom of a prospect to build around and grow with.

Retained salary for 5 years doesn't come cheap but in this case I think its worth

If you got here, Thanks for reading if you feel im way off feel free to let me know.
Cheers folks enjoy your weekend.

I don't know if Schmaltz is the answer for Minny but your logic is sound and it would take a guy like boldy to get that deal done. Especially since they couldn't retain on anyone again this year and would only have one retain a year for the next 5 years. I feel they lose the option for getting a good return for Kessel with the retain as well, so there is also that.

Giving up Boldy, Rossi, or Addison is a non-starter for me from MN.

Yeah, I personally like schmaltz but there may be other options for sure. And I had no idea Arizona couldn't retain haha kind of kills the whole trade. Idea is still solid imo though

But who else do you have to trade that would get you Schmaltz?

I floated several Dumba-for-Schmaltz ideas before the expansion draft, but Guerin went in the opposite direction. Maybe the 2022 first plus Kahkonen plus Rask for the cap relief? And I don't think that Arizona will retain on anyone for five years, by the way.

You are only allowed to have 3 retained contracts on the books per year, so this deal would mean no more retention this season and only one for the next four years after. I also think they could sacrifice Boldy for a centre, I just feel like if they do that he better be quite good.

That haul seems kind of shortsighted in my eyes personally. Rask's contract is done after this season so next year you end with a full priced schmaltz no first rounder and 15 ish mil of dead cap. it would be hella hard pull off. And yeah they may not especially with the retention on OEL. but figured they would be the only one who may with the looming rebuild. Awesome Insight, Cheers.

Ah ok, thanks for the insight. This is not like super final either just throwing the idea out there. Its gonna be a tricky half decade for Billy G that's for sure.

I don't think Schamaltz is a good target for MN. I don't think his game fits well in MN and his contract is too much.

If anyone was to be traded it would deal with Fiala for an AZ center. It's makes the cap work and Fiala isn't one of GMBG's guys.

I'm not doing that for Schmaltz, not unless it's for Dvorak instead. Even then I cringe. Big time.

You might get a Beckman or a Khovanov. But Boldy's a tough ask in my book.

I wouldn't move Fiala for either one of Schmaltz or Dvorak. If he's moved I would hope it's for a top-end center prospect like Lundell or Turcotte.

But that's just me.

I don't disagree, but what I would do and what GMBG would do (has done) are mostly polar opposites.
