playoff team

Created by: Rob32sjsharks
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 29, 2021
Published: Jul. 30, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Curious about the value for Kane to Montreal for Gallagher.
to me this works for both teams, Montreal gets a shorter deal for a power forward who can protect the younger caufeld and Suzuki and produce good stats and gives the sharks a much needed top 6 Rh shot.
How much is Tatar asking for and will he come here?

If we get both I think this is a solid, more balances, albeit unspectacular top 6 with a few kids now pushing for spots in the bottom 6 and a lot of healthy competition!

this to me is a playoff team, but not a cup contender unless EVERYONE rebounds and has improved season vs last year.

Gally is probably the next captain. Gonna pass on this, sorry.

I was trying to pick from the 3 RW or RH shot and he seemed the most likely to be let go and Kane is the type of player you guys needed in the cup finals.
can you give me a good counter offer? we need a RH shot and could give up either Meir or Kane but I feel Kane is better suited for your team and Meir will cost more due to his age.

team refuses to tank and with the long term high dollar deals we cant get rid of I see no way we could. that being said the last few drafts have added a ton of good prospect talent and our minors are no longer devoid of top level talent so were not in that bad a shape oddly enough.

I absolutely love Gally and you will get a ton of opposition from Habs fans but I would make this trade. Kane did some really stupid things in junior and even dummer in Buffalo but since becoming a dad, he has matured a lot.

Gally got part of that contract for services rendered. Bergevin admitted to it. Gally’s body has taken a beating , his hands are beaten up. He has 2 to 4 more good years, then his last few years MTL will be stuck with that contract.

So I would be brave and do it, then watch 2 weeks of crying videos on TikTok about Gallys departure.

Meier for Gallagher I guess

Won’t happen tho as management feels Gallagher is an untouchable and without Center depth Gally will be counted on to drag Evans or Kotkaneimi to respectable numbers

Agreed. Injuries and age catch up to you. I know there a lot of 15 year olds on this site but being an old guy now, I can speak on this. Nothing works like it did even 5 years ago. Wear and tear builds up. I can see why Corey Perry can barely skate now!

I’d be comfortable moving Gally as well. That contract won’t age well

Kane is the better player now and his contract will age better, but Galley is a class player and a fan favorite so this one is hard. Kane has had some troubled past issues to take into account as well, I figured there would be a lot of backlash, but the sharks have way to many LH shots and Montreal has way to many RH shots, just seems both teams could help each other out here.
very open to exploring other options as well.

I’d start with firing everyone (includes GM) and start there

yea that's why I like when the sharks signed Kane to his deal , it expires in his 33 year season and most power forwards start to tail off around age 32/33 seasons.
Gally will have 2 bad years at the end, but I'm banking on him still being a 3rd line solid guy who can help groom the new kids coming up.

Not a good idea if we want to keep Hertl. I’d rather be able to extend Hertl than get Gallagher

we are a in a good market for this team, but we have a relatively young hockey following, and 4 other sporting teams in the area.
a full 3-4+ year rebuild and bad teams would lead a lot of fans spending their money elsewhere and so the team is not in a position to succeed this way like other teams can.
I hate Doug Wilson but the team has been pretty damn successful in his era and the prospect pool has improved greatly the last 2 years. we just have to try and compete, ride out these big deals and spend more wisely in the future.

Your GM always thinks that this team will do better then they actually will…

that's an issue I was thinking about as well! And not just Hertl, but Ferraro and Knyzhov are both due raises next offseason.
I figure we would trade Labanc, Meir, or Tatar after this season to resign those 3.

and Gallaher is the same deal as Kane so either way we are in the same predicament.

I don’t even know what this Habs team is

Are they rebuilding..? Are they trying to go ALL in..?

They need another Center and if they grab someone on the trade market like Dvorak that would help clarify things otherwise they are better off going with a lot of youth. Put Norlinder and Farrell in there and let’s experiment!

If San Jose is a trade partner then most likely Drouin is going the other way. I could see Vlasic going back to the Habs (French quota) which would be a disaster with that albatross contract. But hey, OEL was just traded so anything is possible.

Every GM is the same way! highs hopes they were smarter than the rest. I get that and take it with a grain of salt.

we would have to eat half of vlassic's deal and offer you a top prospect and pick to take him, doubt that happens.

with your success this year I say they are an "up and coming" team, solid playoff contender, not ready to go all in and start shelling out picks and prospects for "NOW" players, but not looking to tank and build up assets either.
you will improve over the next 2-3 years keep adding young players to the team, weed out older player and set up for a 5-6 year run.

the issue with Drouin deal is it is another LW for the sharks and we need RH shot forwards.

I can't really make you a counter offer because the 2 teams interests are not aligned.

You want to do a swap LW/RW, but Meier and Kane are too expensive for Montreal who's already spending 18M on 4 LW.

MTL need a middle 6 center, but SJs gave Hertl a stupid NTC and Bonino won't fetch you much return.

If you want to build a trade around Hoffman for Bonino, i'll listen, but you will have to add.

IMO, SJs should just do a fire sale and rebuild. You are more than 5 players away from beeing contenders anyway ...

like i posted above, the market we are in is not supportive to a fire sale and rebuild, we have no choice but to re-tool and build the team slowly.
and i see a plethora of RHS wingers and a lack ok LHS wingers so i don’t understand where those numbers came from.
