Here come the no votes just because it's a Leaf signing

Yeah im sure it has nothing to do with him only playing 9 games the past 2 years and him missing significant time every single season of his career.

This is exactly what i mean by overrated. This guy has done nothing in 4 years and had one good year before many of the forum users knew how to type, and yet somehow he is still seen as a top 6 forward??

Did you see what I wrote? I said he was a top 6 forward a couple years ago. Then injury lost year so he's a good gamble for the leafs to take that he MAY reclaim that. But there's a good chance he doesn't.

Find me a middle-six player playing 3rd line minutes who had >0.50 pts in 60+ GP with 90% of his points at EV.

I thought the Leafs would have signed Ritchie over Kase

Hopefully Kase can stay healthy

Word is they're still talking with his camp.

Good addition for the Leafs' LTIR room.

clarkson and horton are off the books so we need some new guys to fill that role

I almost dislocated my jaw

good signing

I was thinking he'd be an extra million. Great for the leafs, and still room to add someone else (might have to trade Engvall though).

Or just bury him. Did the math if they bury him they got room to sign Ritchie. And based on certain reports Ritchie could happen soon

Cause in general the majority of those guys signed are headed for the Marlies.

I have a feeling Simmonds will get Hyman's or Galchenyk's top 6 LW minutes.

Bunting will not be a good fit for MnM line.

I still remember when Kase was, analytically, the best winger in the league. The poor guy can't catch a break; one more concussion and he'll probably have to hang it up. I hope he does well in TOR.

If they waive engvall he gets taken or they have a 75k or something cap hit

I certainly hope not. Simmonds is not a particularly good player at this stage of his career

I think I now understand why Dubas chose him over Tatar. Apparently were also in on Ritchie per Serevalli so we need the space to get him as well.

If Ritchie comes we got

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Ritchie-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Kase
Simmonds-Kampf-Spezza

My guess rn but not bad

And I thought the defense was bad. That LW is awful.

Kase has only topped 23 points once in 5 NHL seasons, mostly due to injuries. If he plays 40+ games next season, consider it a W for the Leafs. Anything north of 60 games would be an absolute miracle, and a steal at $1.25M.

Starting to get the feeling you don't know much about hockey if you think the leafs dcore was bad.

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Dermott-Bogosian

Was comparable to many top defensive units in the NHL heck finished 7th last season in a division that had Mcdavid and Draisaitl. But keep telling yourself that if it makes yah feel any better

Everything from having the trade value of a first liner 3 years ago, to being seen as a "obvious" Seattle choice from Boston, to being seen as an analytical mastermind.

What toronto has done here is fine, but this player isn't anything more than a bottom six depth piece.

It's like you have no idea why he is available.

If he's healthy he could play in probably any top 6. This is an extremely low price to pay for someone of that quality. Every team signs 10 guys for 800k that they go on to release the next year. 1.25 is nothing.

And worst case he ends up on LTIR. There's no downside to this signing and the upside is huge. Insanely mislead comment you produced there.

So? They're not paying anything for him. If it works out it's one of the best values in the NHL. If not, he's on LTIR. Exactly what is not to like here?

Perhaps the most overrated player in the league by people on this website (going on what, 3? 4 years?).

Can someone please explain what exactly happened with Kase last season?

Boston Boston was willing to trade a 1st + 2nd (Axel Andersson) for him around 18 months ago.

He had a major injury and missed the whole season so Boston wasn't willing to give him his qo.

Also they paid that for Kase AND dumping Backes contract.

Ya I just don't love the idea of burying him, I don't think he'd cost anything to dump, he's still an nhl player.

Basically 0 real risk with some pretty significant upside. His on ice performance has always been strong, he often doesn't get to earn the minutes his play deserves because of his penchant to be injured a lot, but the thing is he hasn't shown any real signs of the injuries actually causing decline in his play when healthy so a very reasonable bet from a team that can afford to maybe have a bit of a rotating cast on the top 2 lines LW slot.

1 year barely above the amount you can bury means no real risk. Nothing to dislike, even if it amounts to nothing.
