Description
Toronto has few players to protect from expansion and a few buried players becoming UFAs, and that sets them up to help some teams out of trouble.

I worry that I haven't given up enough for Fowler. Gauthier and Timashov are valuable for Anaheim because they don't need to be protected, Carrick provides a cheap stop-gap defender in a league where defenders are hard to find... but is it enough?

    A couple of things.
    1) Not enough for Fowler
    2) Why are you trading Connor Brown for a 2nd round pick?
    3) We get raped in the CHI trade.
    4) Lupul? Seriously?

Why did you just trade JVR (& retain salary), Leivo and a pick for a fourth line centre with a high cap hit and a prospect with a low ceiling (definitely lower than leivo)...................................
Also lol if you think Lupul ever plays a game for the leafs again.
Trading Connor Brown for a second literally does nothing to help the leafs at all.... most second round picks never turn into anything near connor brown

Not down with that Chicago trade, and I'd rather have a go at Vatanen from Anaheim. The Leafs need a right-handed, top four defenseman. Vatanen fills that criteria. Fowler is good, but we don't need another left-handed defender. I'd also much rather keep Connor Brown. He's legit.

Why would the Leafs give up so much of their for one year of Fowler?
Connor Brown is starting RWer for the Leafs and to get about 60th overall for him....why would the Leafs do that?
Leafs don't need Kruger especially for JVR who could be traded for more if wanted.

I disagree with your assessment of Forsling, he has a high ceiling. But I do agree that trade is terrible for Toronto.
