Can someone explain the recent obsession with demelo

Description
So many jets fans seem to have a recent obsession with keeping Dylan demelo. Im sorry but keeping Copp is way more important. If the jets need to move demelo to get under the cap, they should do it. They have heinola nhl ready and heinola with a full season under his belt is much more valuable than demelo in the postseason.

Shoot them both to the moon as far as I'm concerned, two of the boringest ****ing players ever imo.

Our RD is weaker than our left, and so far our LD prospects (Stanley, Heinola, Samberg) haven't played on the right side so far. While DeMelo is an unexciting player, he plays a solid defensive game and has brought out the best in Morrissey since Trouba left.

As far as Copp goes, he's somewhat expendable given how stacked the Jets' forwards group is, especially with Perfetti, Lucius, and Chibrikov in the pipeline. In short, the fanbase currently feels steady defenseman is more important than dynamic forwards.

In any case, #FreeVille

Exactly what you said, fans feel a steady RD that can play anywhere is more important than Copp. I personally would rather get rid of DeMelo and have Heinola play a full season like you said.

Im on the other side. I’d rather keep DeMelo, especially depending on what type of contract Copp is looking for. A
3 million dollar reliable defenceman to play close to 20 mins a night is pretty good value in my opinion.
I don’t know what’s going to happen and maybe getting rid of DeMelo is what’ll happen, but I think they should do their best to keep him. I know Schief was down in the MTL series, but DeMelo was too and his absence was glaring.

Pionk will get more than $6 mil. With the signings lately he is going to come in at $7 mil.
Can't afford Copp as he is wanting his payday so he will be gone.
Heinola and Stanley got to play so Demelo is gone.
The big thing with Copp and DeMelo gone, who is going to kill penalties especially on defense?

Likely Stanley, Dillon, Morrissey and either schmidt or DeMelo depending on if he gets traded or not.

This was the problem I had with acquiring Schmidt besides the length and amount of his contract. To play Heinola our PK defense has a big hole in it.

I don’t think Heinola should be a full time nhler yet I’d trade Stanley and play Samberg with Schmidt and play DeMelo with Dillon DeMelo and Dillon played on a line together in San Jose so they have the chemistry locked down

Maybe samberg is NHL ready, and they plan on starting Heinola in the AHL. Jets will have to move one of the dman out after this season. Who’s your candidate? I think a quiet option for a trade is Morrissey. Heinola will replace him in 2 years, play the same style of hockey but be way better offensively. I think he’s a quiet trade option.

I’d like to see the Jets start the year on the blue line with:

Morrissey - Pionk
Dillon - Schmidt
Stanley - DeMelo

If they go with that, you have 4 guys who can pk effectively. If samberg is ready, trade DeMelo and have samberg play his offside. He’s played RD for a whole year in the AHL. But I’d rather Heinola and Samberg play together top pairing in the AHL. Give them 25 mins a night, play them in every situation and give them the most experience possible.

I think after this season if Heinola and Samberg are ready (are they ready now? maybe not both of them) then slide them in the 2nd pairing and move Dillon and Schmidt out.

Morrissey - Pionk
Samberg - Heinola
Stanley - DeMelo

I was excited about the Dillon trade but I wasn't comfortable with the Schmidt trade. Not sure why you go after a guy that didn't want to be here? I don't think Morrissey will be traded unless the relationship between him and the Jets sour.

I’d keep Schmidt tbh but Dillon is probably only a 1 year guy for us I agree. Heinola is ready now. Samberg could benefit from another year in the ahl but if need be, he’s also ready now.
