Decent deal. If he choke, it's 1 year. If he really becomes a must have, well he's still RFA

Our hero.

He’s a great defensive forward and a beast in the playoffs. This is a good deal for both parties. The habs keep the cap hit low and he’ll have a lot more leverage next year with a year remaining before UFA. Now the habs have around $5.5 million in cap flexibility and only Kotkaniemi (out of the NHLers) yet to sign.

Great deal, Lehkonen is a good 3rd liner albeit he'll play on our 4th line and he’s a great PK player/forechecker and energy player

Don’t forget that he’s one of those that reinvented themselves after coming to NHL as a goal scorer. Those guys always have the offensive upside. Same with Armia.

Well I’m not sure he’s an Armia level player offensively, but he might be able to break out for 18 goals again if everything went right. Although I can’t see that happening for the habs this year, since he’ll be playing 4th line minutes, and likely in a defensive role.

The 1 person that voted no probably doesn't understand that this is only 100K more than his qualifying offer.

I consider this a failure. MB is willing to throw extra money and term at everyone else. Why not Lehkonen?

Because he’s not a UFA. He doesn’t have leverage, and the habs need cap space.

I would've liked a contract like Colton Sissions, at his age a 7 years deal covers his prime years

True, but signing someone to term before UFA is often cheaper than waiting until they are UFA. Losing Lehkonen isn't the end of the world, but having him even for 3 years for maybe $500K more AAV could be beneficial. That's how you get players like Jarnkrok on 6 year @ 2M contracts.

But how much is Lehkonen worth right now ?
~ 13 goals a year on a full season
~ 30 points a year on a full season
MTL best forechecker
MTL best PKer since Danault left
Plays with is heart every shift

Big lack of finish …

I hope Marc get a long term deal around 2M AAV on is next contract. But he is worth more IMO

I was just using Jarnkrok as an example of how you get value at the bottom of your lineup. It would be closer to $3M these days. Someone mentioned Sissons' contract as well, which is a more recent example of a similar deal.

The problem is Lehkonen last season, the offense wasn’t there at usual. So next year is a enormous year for him, it will determine if he is worth closer to 3M or closer too 2M

Meh. He was only down 0.3 points/60 and he also started 3.2% less in the offensive zone. That's not a significant enough deviation to suggest anything. He's pretty consistent.

And he is playing more of a defensive role so you are right, he is consistent

Great bottom 6 winger for the habs. Love this deal especially with the low risk 1 year term.
