Solid player, I think he'll do just fine as a 4C behind Aho, Trocheck and Staal. Carolina needs wings more than centres, but I like this deal for more forward depth.

I mean he's been really bad recently. He has also played for bad teams. I had him around 1M. Carolina going with it, and if he retains some of his amazing play, I think it will be a great deal. He's also good at faceoffs, so really not bad

If given the chance, I think Stepan can still put up some points. Ottawa wasn’t a match, but in 3 years with Arizona he averaged 38.6 points a season. $1.35M is well worth the risk for Carolina, and for Stepan it’s a chance to earn a bigger contract next off season.

I was thinking that Stepan could be one of those sneaky good UFA signings from this year. Might be wasted on a 4th line though. I think he still has lots of game left, it's just that Ottawa wasn't a fit.

He's a great buy low candidate to see if he can rebound. Of not it's barely above the waiving line.

But man he peaked young eh?

He didn't want to be in Canada last year because his kids were left behind by the border with the pandemic. Can't see him risking the same this year

Good 3rd line center, but for us a 4th line center. Low risk deal too. I like this a lot. We may now have the best center core in the league with Aho, Troch, Staal, and Stepan now.

His numbers were declining before he got to Ottawa, but I just saw Trocheck's name on the injured list, so maybe we'll get to find out soon if Stepan can still play higher in the lineup.

I've learned recently, I don't remember where unfortunately, that Stepan is known to have some off-ice attitude issues and that he's a bit of a bad influence on younger players.

I wish I could find that info for you.
