For only a 3rd it hardly seems worth it.

He's still a good player, salary retention as well. It's not like he's Andrew Ladd. He could rebound and be a bargain.

I don't think Hronek will sign that long for so little money. He's been our de facto top defender for two years now and will expect to be paid more. I see him signing a three year contract around that sum though.

I also think Vrána will want as much as Mantha got (5.7) or even a bit more since the deal is two years longer than Mantha's was.

I'd switch Stephens in for Gagner, he's a better centre I'd also let Veleno play 3C (no one on that line is a good centre as you have it) , DDK would have to play in GR with Nielsen.

The whole idea on this is taking a chance on Duchene being able to rebound after leaving Nashville, getting small compensation to take him but only with retention. If it fails its not that big of a burden, or if it will be easier to trade away at 6M than 8M, wth retention.

Duchene with a cap hit at or below $2M then it's worth a chance, but $6M for 5yrs is just not worth it.

I personally would take a risk on it, but not everyone feels the same I know
