Eichel if

Created by: papishark
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2021
Published: Aug. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If I am SJS, I put one condition on an Eichel deal, and that is no Eklund. The sabres just dont have the leverage to ask for a prospect as good as Eklund anymore. If they wont do it without Eklund, then theres no deal.

Deal from NJ

I dont think NJ will have the room or desire to pay TM $10 mil next season & beyond (for the QO). He's far from a $10 mil player.

Ok, no deal then. It’s hilarious because a week ago SJ would’ve offered their first round pick. Now that they make the pick, no deal LOL

I really don’t know why we would ever trade for eichel we need firsts and I personally would never trade bordeleau

To all the Sabres saying it starts with Eklund, that's going to be very unlikely.
Ducks aren't including Zegras or Drysdale
Rangers aren't including Kaako, Laf, Fox, Lundkvist, Schneider
Vegas isn't including Krebs
Kings aren't including, Byfield (maybe Turcotte too)

Sharks can get away not including Eklund

Exactly, if other teams can take those guys out I don’t see why the sharks can’t take Eklund out. I just don’t see why the sharks would offer Eklund unless they really really wanted Eichel and were willing to risk their entire future on him, which I and doubt DW are comfortable doing

San Jose better put lottery protections on that 1st rounder because any team with Alex Barabanov in the top 6 F group is in trouble.

You could just re-sign him before free agency or let him go to UFA and resign him that way. Not saying the QO isn’t a nuisance, but there are ways to work around it.

He did very well for the sharks in his short stint. Obviously you never know if that will last, but the leafs didn’t ever give him a legit shot at even playing so I don’t think it’s right to judge him off of that

Sabres fans are not prepared that none of their demands for top end prospects are going to happen. its been months and no one has blinked. Adams will be forced by Eichel to make a deal for what will seem as subpar package. Every day that passes means the deal gets worse.

Well, first its important to note that the first $10 mil is unavoidable... that salary kicks in in the last year of the contract (the cap number of $6m is irrelevant); so the acquiring team would pay $6 mil year one, $10 mil year two & then be subject to the $10 mil QO. That's far too much for his level of production.

Additionally, there is little motivation for TM to sign an extension that is not a gross overpay, which is the purpose of such a structure. Letting him go UFA, instead of qualifying loses control (obviously) & would therefore reduce his trade value significantly, given there normally would be some implied value of the RFA status.

All this seriously compromises his trade value, particularly for a team like NJ that has a huge backlog of RFA / UFA contracts to sign in the next 1-2 seasons.

If he can keep up the pace over 82 games, then sure. But I highly doubt he does, San Jose needs more depth.

I think Sj needs more top talent. Our depth is good, but the risk of having Balcers and Barabonov in the top six is not good.

You know, 5-6 years ago, San Jose was in a pretty good spot with Couture, Meier, Labanc, Thornton, Pavelski, Hertl, Marleau, and Donskoi. Now they're really grasping at straws trying to get something right. I still like Couture, Labanc, Hertl, and Meier a lot, I just don't think they have the proper supporting pieces.

Salary cap problems have caused this. Problem is guys stopped taking team friendly deals, and Doug grasped to hold onto important pieces that became worse
