I'd do that if Hertl signed for that but I expect him to get significantly more.

You're overpaying San Jose by quite a bit IMO.

Thomson + one of Greig or Tierney should be enough.

I'm assuming you think Ottawa is on Hertl's three-team trade list.

What do you think are the other two teams?

If you were to take a guess smile

Did u know Zaitsev didn’t have Ottawa on his list and still came here? Players can be persuaded

What Zaitsev had was a list of 10 teams to which you can't trade him.

Because Ottawa was at rock bottom when he was traded in 2019, Ottawa was one of those 10 teams until Zaitsev decided to waive his no-trade list.

Zaitsev did it because his former Assistant coach with the Leafs, DJ Smith, became Ottawa's head coach and Zaitsev liked playing for him.

Also, fellow team-mate Connor Brown was included in the trade to Ottawa as well.

The incentives were there for Zaitsev to come to Ottawa.

I'm not sure what incentives there are for Hertl.

Also, you're overpaying San Jose by quite a bit IMO.

Hertl is a point per game player almost. It would absolutely cost 3 solid pieces . His incentive is to come and lead an up and coming team that’s going to be very good

If Hertl costs 3 solid pieces, then that's what we should have got from Vegas for Mark Stone or from Columbus for Matt Duchene.

I'd also be very wary about trading a 2022 1st round pick that has less lottery protection than the 2018/2019 1st round pick we spent to get Duchene from Colorado smile

I can't tell if you're ridiculously undervaluing Hertl, or drastically overvaluing Thomson and Tierney. Those two pieces aren't close at all in value to Hertl. If it's Greig it's not good.

I'm just evaluating Hertl using the Mark Stone trade with Vegas and the Matt Duchene trade with Columbus as benchmarks.

If those two trades were fair, then this one for Hertl is an overpayment.

When we're paying a 1st round pick with less lottery protection than the 1st round pick we gave Colorado, that's a red flag for me.

I only want the best for Ottawa smile

San Jose is in a downward spiral with multiple albatross contracts weighing them down. Ottawa is on the rise.

When Ottawa traded for Matt Duchene, we had no idea we would be headed for a downward spiral.

Just FYI.

You can't judge a deal like this off trade deadline deals from 2019.

When Stone was traded to Vegas, he immediately signed an extension.

All we got from it is Brannstrom and a really late 2nd round pick.

If there's another trade that serves as a better comparable to judge this one for Hertl, please tell me smile

Thompson and Greig are worth pretty little to me. Id ask for one of your more legit prospects like Pinto or no deal

tierny greg and the 1st is a fair value you add thompson and it’s an overpay. sharks should consider especially with kane and the issues about gambling we should chok this season up for rebuild.

SJ does not need or want Tierney 3.5M. If you want to throw him in to balance the cap fine but he is not an asset in a hertl deal. Young C under 24, Prospect and a 1st at a minimum.
