Ottawa declines because all three of those players will be placed on waivers at the beginning of the season.

what in the hell is that NJD trade?

not to mention the fact that Ottawa would be dumb to pay a 3rd for any of that.

I know it's a "fantasy" lineup but I think Rielly is staying a Leaf long term, even if Sandin has a good year I don't think they let Rielly go.

I feel like if they're to extend Rielly it would be done by now, the fact it hasn't happened already goes to show the extent of the Leafs cap issues, plus I know the numbers say otherwise but to me he has passed his peak, I thought Ceci was bringing him down in 19-20 but after getting Brodie it goes to show that he's just not gonna be as good as years pass, he jumps up on plays too much which is very risky, the Leafs have forwards for breakouts, super unnecessary on Rielly to do that, so instead of him leaving for nothing in free agency, why not at bare minimum get assets in draft picks for him right? that's just me it seems though lol

So your solution is to trade him for an inferior player? Also, you don't think we could get a better return for Rielly than this? And why would Ottawa make that trade? Rielly jumps in on the rush because that's his style of play, he's a puck moving offensive defenceman who's skating and quarterbacking a pp is his greatest strength. I think @palhal said it best this isn't a fantasy it's a nightmare.

Leafs are in a "win mode" this season. Reilly stays. But I can't imagine the Leafs will resign Reilly. Too much cap in him as multiple teams will offer him way too much based on his offensive stats. Leafs will just have find another LHD in 22/23, surely not as good as Reilly, but the Leafs can't wreck their cap over Reilly.

This is why capfriendly sucks. People undervalue rookies etc. Then again people don't exactly look at them and think how they would develop with the team.

And the comment above they're all waiver exempt.

Semyonov and Teemu easily gets a 3rd / 4th in Ottawa case tbh since it be a early 4th and to any team if they look at them and think they could fit in their system. And hutch for a low pick also a no brainer if your in need of goalies.

Bro Semyonov and Kivihalme aren't prospects. They're both 26, that's not a developing prospect, that's a a grown man with like a decade of Pro hockey experience. They are what they are.

Kivihalme probably isn't even an injury call up. He can provide value on an AHL team, but you probably aren't comfortable with him even in your press box.

Semyonov might be an NHL player, but again he's not more than a depth guy. The whole reason he was signed in the first place was on the hope that maybe play on the 4th line and add value on the PK.

I don't know what it is with Leaf fans, but they get these KHL FA types every year, and every year the fan base on here falls into two categories; its either "this UFA who picked TOR is gonna be totally valuable trade chip immediately" or its "this KHLer with no high end skillset of any kind is gonna be the difference maker. It's the same thing every year, whether it's Mikko "PP Savior" Lehtonen, Alex "Tavares' Winger Barabanov or Igor "top 4 RD" Ozhiganov.

Also as a final point, if your big argument for their value "they're waiver exempt" then you know they aren't worth a pick in the top 3 rounds. Nobody is trading a 3rd for guys because "you won't lose them when they clearly don't make the team".

You think you need to be 20 to still develop your game? And because they're waiver exepmt means they're aren't good? That a stupid statement. No one is saying semyonov is a difference maker. I heard that about lethonen and it was dumb. Barabanov is good just didn't for well for the leafs and didn't really have a role/line/spot for him . He's been doing just fine everywhere else

I don't think anyone is saying that they have no chance - just that they don't have that kind of trade value. You wouldn't get picks, but could probably trade for other teams' similar-age players that haven't made NHL rosters.

By the time you're 26, you're not a prospect. You can still improve as a player, but by and large you are what you are in terms of physical development and skill ceiling.

Also you should work on reading comprehension, because then you'd know that obviously wasn't even close to the point I was making about waiver exemption. The point is if you're trading a 3rd round pick, whether or not players are waiver exempt isn't really a factor, because teams aren't trading a high round pick for players they anticipate needing to waive. Outside of deadline depth deals, teams aren't trading a 3rd for players they don't expect to be regulars in their lineup.
