In order to be like the Bruins, the Leafs would have to managed the cap well...starting about 12 years ago.
Bruins have been a top contender for years cause they seem to have managed their cap effectively since the cap era began. Yea some they have made mistakes, but about the most consistently good management of their personnel for a number of years in the whole NHL.

I wasn't very impressed with the most recent Marner performance in the playoffs but he's still very young with time to grow as a player. Age fits Detroit timeline.
Even though he hits ~11m against the cap I think the Red Wings should agree to this trade.

Player for player this is an underpay from Detroit but only because they are taking ~4m off the cap for the Leafs cap I think it is pretty even.

He's saying "become the Bruin's" by adding chippy/gritty guys like Matt Tkachuk, Bertuzzi, Max Domi, etc.

Yzerman doesn’t like having players who make over 10M a season so he’ll decline that offer

Unfortunately, this site doesn't have a time machine feature, so that is impossible.
