I compare his value to hertls value, both almost have the same age (hertl 27 and monahan 26) and reportedly san jose can part away from hertl for a first rounder and a top prospect, and they wanted thomson. Then, when we look at their performances, hertl has beem performing better than monahan over the last 2 years (in 19-20: hertl had 0.75 p/g, monahan had 0.69; in 20-21: hertl had 0.86, monahan had 0.56). Both were on bad teams, and plus, hertls a 2 way forward. So, with the reported value that san jose wants for hertl, id say the trade i did wasnt bad for monahan

Different circumstances. SJ wants to dump contracts and clear cap space where they can. CAL wants value (and even over value) for their guys. SJ is rebuilding, CAL retooling.
