Description
Probably doesn't seem realistic to most but the PHI trade would give PHI a couple really good prospects and a 2 first round picks + they could potentially get one or both players back next off season which would determine if they'd also get 2nd rounders or 3rd rounders.. They'd get younger and better for the long term and could potentially retain all assets after a year...

Flyers for what ever reason are all in this year. How else do you explain giving up a first for Ristolainen.

Could retain one for those two high caliber C to help Suz & KK finish developing while potentially winning a cup now, seems worth it for a cup. Could always make trades later to replenish stocks too

Cost/Benefit, a first is a gamble but they know for sure Risto is good and gonna be good for a while yet

Risto is a UFA next summer. IMO Risto has been maligned by many of this site. I think been on a better team this him will relax him and make him a better player

This trade is not helpful for either team. Montreal loses their ability to improve their prospect pool significantly by giving up 2 1sts and Philly loses their shot at a deep playoff run this year by giving up their top 2 centers (players who can play center, I know Giroux is more of a winger) leaving them weak down the middle.

Weakens PHI down the middle for a playoff run this year but not entirely. Hayes, Laughton, Frost, Poehling is a young and lower caliber setup now but 1 or both of couts or Giroux could be back as UFA signings next season which significantly strengthens PHI long term. I know this would deplete MTLs prospects for now but a cup win is the ultimate goal plus trades and moves can be made later to replenish this pool of prospects and/or picks.
