Created by: villenash
Team: 2021-22 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2021
Published: Aug. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Glass, Tolvanen, Tomasino, and Vilardi would be a very exciting group of young forwards for NSH -- add to that Fabbro, Farrance, Carrier, and Myers -- plus Askarov -- this team would have a bright future.

Pretty sure they’d want a top LD in return

Would you consider Farrance to be a starting place?

I don't think his potential is that insane.

If I were LA, I'd be looking intently at Fabbro. I know he's a RD, but as a value swap it's right on the money. Pretty much 1 for 1.

I could see the Kings including Vilardi as part of a Forsberg or Ekholm deal. Aside from that, there's nothing that Nashville has that would entice LA into giving up Vilardi.

The Kings are overloaded with RHD prospects. After Doughty and Clarke, there's Faber and Grans, and then there's Strand, Spence, & Durzi. Fabbro is a quality defenseman, but the Kings don't have any need for him. They'd be better off keeping Vilardi and moving him to RW (a position they are desperately short at).

I think Nashville adds for Vilardi even if they give up Forsberg or Ekholm unless LA gets an extension at a reasonable price.

I don't think LA pulls the trigger on a Forsberg or Ekholm deal unless there's a reasonable extension agreed on ahead of time, regardless of return.

Most likely true. Although Forsberg and Ekholm for Vilardi would be tempting.

I realize, this is why I said it's the right value with the issue of him being a RD. If Fabbro was a LD, imo it's the perfect swap of both value and need.

Vilardi IMO is the guy directly pushed out from signing Danault. He was supposed to be a version of Horvat, but that spot is now Phil's. Byfield is now the remaining C spec to develop. (I would be wrong to say I am that educated with Turcotte or Kupari). So if they can find a LD version of Fabbro, I say pull the trigger.

And of course at this point the Predators are the team declining. a base deal around either of these players for Vilardi doesn't make sense for either side.

The OP asked what it would take to get Vilardi. He didn't ask what would be a deal that makes sense for both sides.

If you have $20 you're not going to ask what it would take to get a steak and lobster dinner. It still has to be in the range of realism. A basic principle of trade is dealing with what makes sense for both sides.

Regardless, both Forsberg and Ekholm seems a bit ripe.

I think Vilardi is just a bit more valuable than Glass, which was a primary portion of the value of Ellis. If Ellis is worth Glass, then surely Forsberg in terms of pure value (and especially if extended) is worth Vilardi.

The Flyers robbed Nashville in that trade.

Flyers also gave up 13OA and a 2nd rounder for 1 year of Ristolainen. So if you base it off that trade Vilardi would only get you Ekholm.

It's not good to base your valuations off lopsided trades.
