Aggressive off season

Created by: Lancebmx

Description
Finish off the off season super aggressive like.
Might not be a large enough return in the Tarasenko / Islanders deal for Detroit, that could always be adjusted. Just didn't want to redo it.
Trade expiring contracts for other worse expiring contracts with picks. Edmonton saves money and improves both positions.
Bring in Matheson with prospects to be an over paid third pairing guy for a few years. Goalie prospects went from bad to very good after this off season.
Nashville pays to dump 3/4 of Duchene and I take the risk, could turn it around he's still young enough to be a very good player for the future. The second and the retention helps mitigate the risk. If it doesn't pan out then a trade with half of what's left of his salary retained could be viable.
Saved one retention slot for Leddy at the trade deadline. Leddy, Stetcher, Staal, Gagner and Koskinen gone for whatever I can get at the deadline. Fabbri has to be the right deal, I think he's still a really good player and I would resign him in a heart beat.

If I could make that deal for the Pens I would. Giving up Legare and Clang would suck though.

Clang was the MVP of his league as a goalie, on a last place team..lol. You know how good you have to be, or how good of a season you have to have to get MVP as a goalie, on a last place team.

And Legare is very close to NHL ready, a right handed shot, top 6. He lit-up the Q the last 3 seasons. 87 points in 68 games, 71 points in 61 games, and 40 points in 33.

But getting 4.8M off the books for this season and 4 more after is worth it.

While that might not be a bad deal so the Pens could move Matheson, Hextall has openly said to the media on multiple occasions that he won't add sweeteners just to dump players.

Honestly I felt I was a little light on the return, but in all honesty Detroit needs some LD with term. At least until our prospects are ready to fill in. Who knows maybe in a more defensive system he could excel?

I could see that, the cupboard is pretty empty in Pittsburgh right now.

Matheson actually played very well for the Pens this year. He far exceeded expectations which is why they protected him.

Hextall has stated he's only looking to move players in a hockey trade, not to dump salary and wouldn't add picks or prospects to help trade a player.

Yeah. Hextall has said one of his goals is to start adding picks and prospects, and to stop selling them off. I suspect he might move a good pick or prospect if there's a big deal to be had, but it's going to take one heck of a deal.

It’s really not. Young prospects, yes. Highly drafted, elite prospects, yes.

But close to NHL ready guys, no not empty. Players that are definitely NHL players, no not empty. Angello(25), Zohorna(25), O’Connor(23), PO-J(22), Maniscalco(22), Poulin(20), legare(20), Hallander(21), Bjorkqvist(23), Puustinen(22), Caulfield(20).

NSH wouldn't retain $2m + give up a 2nd rounder without getting literally anything back -- sure, Duchene has not been good in NSH so far, but that deal isn't worth it to NSH.

That move makes a lot of sense for the Isles however I don’t think Lou want to move that many draft picks. He’s completely mortgaging the future with this move.

At least the majority of the players are locked up to at least a few years so there is that
