Bunting at 950k is much better than Hyman at 5.5m. He may just turn out to be better than Hyman.

dubas literally took the hyman money, built us a solid 3rd line of ritchie-kampf-kase, then replaced hyman with a younger dude for <$1M who will likely fill most of the hole left by hyman on this team lol

"haha what lyle, that's crazy hyman is a god"

hyman was pretty poo poo in his first season, and compared to bunting's first foray into the league, he was a lot better lol. Bunting also has 5 pro seasons under his belt where he's been excellent, hyman only had 1 half-season split between AHL/NHL, the rest being college

If they lose Mikheyev Engvall (and Hyman) I don't think they are better. You're asking a lot from Bunting, Robertson, and Ritchie to be as good.
I like the Mrzrek signing but I don't see Campbell being as good as he was last year ,
Leafs were good last year despite the first round exit. Can they get some players to play above their contract to be true contenders?

Yup, now he needs to go out and prove it. I think he will. Love his style of game. Seems to have an awesome attitude as well.

super excited to see him play. he definitely won't replace hyman, but if he's even half of the player, it's 100% worth it. Smart GMs never overpay for goodrow/coleman/hyman types pushing 30, they go out and find the next goodrow/coleman/hyman, of which there is always some

Bunting kase ritchie kampf… in
Hyman Mikheyev Engvall …out.

I wouldn’t say we are asking too much. Would really love to see Mikheyev stay. Think he is due for a really great season. At this point we don’t know who is out though.

If you watch bunting he plays very similarly to Hyman. Digging out pucks, in players faces, very hard to play against, just really annoying. A little more finesse to his game as well as a better shot. Bunting didn’t just have that season playing in sheltered minutes, he was playing 16-17 mins a night in the top 6 in ARI, against other teams top lines. Imagine what he can do with Matthews and marner. I could easily see him scoring 15 maybe 20 goals on that line. I’m glad Dubas didn’t go the goodrow/Coleman/Hyman type route of overpaying middle six grinders, instead is taking very low risk moves on guys he sees a lot of potential in that can replace these types of guys.

It’s gotta be mikheyev, he just doesn’t fit now with the guys brought in

It could be but it would need to be both Engvall and Mikheyev. Doing that would also make it impossible to bring up Lilly. Or you move kerfoot. Now you have the flexibility cap wise but too many roster players. Players would be lost to waivers.

Or you move all 3 and bring in one player. In the 3m range.
