Reading the tea leaves DISCUSSION

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2021-22 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2021
Published: Aug. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) Palmieri, Cizikas, Parise and Zajac are believed to have deals in place
2) Beauvillier and Sorokin not filing for arbitration also leads you to believe they have deals in place
3) Ryan Murray's camp has been very quiet. Defenseman are getting signed but not him. Makes you wonder?
4) Pagnotta states Isles have "some two-way deals" in place. Given Dal Colle hasn't signed anywhere and Golyshev expects to play in North America, I'd say those are the two safe bets.

**Bonus tin foil hat conspiracy theory**
Pelech filed for arbitration. But what if Lou ASKED him to do that? By doing so, it just opened up a second buyout window for us. Maybe Lou needs another avenue to free up cap in order to complete a different transaction...?

NYI
  1. Tarasenko, Vladimir
Additional Details:
If Lou is confident in Tarasenko's medicals he pulls the trigger on a swap like this to add a scoring punch into the lineup next to Barzal.
STL
  1. Bailey, Josh
Additional Details:
We've since learned that SEA could have taken Bailey for free and was not paid to choose Eberle instead. Does that signal he has been deemed expendable?

STL gets a top-6F and doesn't have to retain on Tarasenko. Saves $2.5M in the process

What are they looking for then? Isles can offer D prospects and some picks but salary has to be moved and/or retained for a trade to work. They really need Seattle/Arizona/Detroit to help facilitate a deal then.

I would trade Bailey for VT but I wouldn’t go much more than that. Bailey does a lot for this team and Tarasenko is a huge risk at the moment.

Agreed, not sure if there’s a need or spot for Bailey by the blues though? If the Blues want or need a 2RW playmaking defensive forward that is good on PP, PK, then this would make sense. But I do think Bailey is worth more than Tarasenko, would expect some retention if Bailey is involved.

Salary Blues take back they want gone after this year. They are making big push for Matthew Tkachuk next year. Bailey is good player but they don’t want for 3 more years.

He made more sense for them before they signed Saad. Leo/Hickey seem like reasonable salary dumps on 1 year deals but it’s such a risk for the Isles to take on VT’s salary next year if he isn’t the same player pre surgery or gets hurt. I’m leaning on passing on him.

That trade doesn’t get it done imo idk what it would look like but would be shocked at a straight swap there.. I thought the buyout window was only if they actually go to arbitration or if the team files? Could be wrong there I don’t remember the full details I do believe beau probably has a deal done and also believe sorokin is close but based on his interview today not done

It’s not that crazy as you think that Lou wanted Pelech’s camp to choose arb, because until the hearing he’s not eligible for an offer sheet, which in my mind is the main reason for why it takes so long for Lou dropping the news, he’s afraid that Pelech could be offer sheeted. Which I don’t think would happen anyway… but by this Lou just opened up time, which the old man loves.

And Vlad isn't interested in the Blues.

True but if Blues don’t trade him, he will be interested in getting paid and re-establishing his value so he’ll have to play for them…

Laughed because Lou probably had the whole offseason done at like 4 pm last Wednesday but isn't going to announce the transactions until the day before the season starts

I dont think it means Beau/Sorokin have deals, Barzal didnt file for arbitration and he was late to camp.

They certainly could have deals, i just don't think it means they do, since they didnt file

I’d say Bailey, Bellows, a 2022 2nd and St. Louis retains like 3-3.5m
