Maybe I missed something, but why is Marcus Petterson available (or is he)? He’s very solid defensively, relatively young, signed with term and a reasonable number. Is Pittsburgh trying to shed money for something else?

Combination of reasons. Dumolin is slightly better and Matheson is locked in, and they want to clear a full time spot for POJ. Also idk there was that whole athletic article about how Petterson isn't strong enough or something dumb like that. Someone should try and scoop him.



I'm not totally convinced that the Blues aren't going to take a bath on this one but there's enough people wish-casting Tarasenko to their teams for pennies to indicate to me that he has value yet. It's like when Suter got bought out and everyone was like "oh well he'll play for my favorite team for 1.5 million on a one year deal then" except everyone did that and then he was worth a four year deal for 3.65 despite all the question marks with his age. The Blues need to be patient with this and his agent can either accept that or not. If they are patient, eventually a team desperate to make an improvement will meet the asking price.
