Quoting: Hammerwise
theyve both put 250pts the last 4 yrs and while Coots is a UFA, he wont be a 10mil UFA. Hes just 28 yrs old, a selke winner, a leader, a team first guy= something BUF needs, JVR is added for salary purposes, but he has no injury history and a safe bet for 20-30 goals...
This is a very interesting trade.
You make a very compelling case for the trade.
How do you value Rubtsov, and Strome?
What value does 32 yo JVR bring to the Sabres?
What happens if Buffalo cannot trade or sign Couturier?
If Buffalo made this trade they would have only 3 Right handed forwards next year: Cozen, Thompson and Okposo!
OK those are the negative sides to the trade.
Couturier is only 4 years older than Eichel, if there was a guarantee he would sign a 6 year contract with the Sabres, he would be a big plus.
JVR should provide decent production and replace the scoring that Reinhart provided.
The following year, If JVR could be moved for a decent return it make the trade very attractive.
On the surface it looks like a fair deal, I will agree.
But, if Couturier does not sign with Buffalo, and JVR's production slips all Buffalo has is a couple of prospects with a low NHL ceiling.
I think I would have to pass on this trade unless Couturier came with an extension.
@sk540 you are correct Couturier would be a great addition, but I think a younger edition is what Buffalo would want is the point that
@Juiceman is making.
