Kaprizov to Contender

Created by: Aero_Astro_Guy
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 2, 2021
Published: Aug. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Minnesota gets young inexpensive C in Lundell, an enforcer in Lomberg and a 1st for Kaprizov and 2nd. This allows Florida, who are stacked at C to move Hornquist down the lineup and have a great 1st line (maybe even the best in the league). Minnesota gets some cap space to fill too.

We might take back Hornquist if they want for a pick or prospect

That doesn't help them in 2023-2024

They have less than 8M to sign Reinhart (and Kaprizov). Adding Hornqvist would help a little but they still wouldn't be able to afford both

Kinda concerning yeah. But this is Florida. They might take a pay cut due to taxes

Not to mention not being able to afford to re-sign Barkov next season, which would leave them in an unenviable position.

I think your value for Kap is pretty much right on. That said, as many others have said, it’s gonna be really tough for any team to take on his cap hit at the moment.

If the Wild truly want to commit to trading Kap, they should sign him for 3 years and then eat half the salary. The cap situation is gonna be tough but it also opens spots for ELCs that can fill that void.

Thanks a lot. Was thinking about good available C options on ELC. McMichael, Newhook, Lundell. Looks like Lundell and Newhook did not work out well. Will go forward and do a Caps trade some time tomorrow.

That's true. They might be able to squeeze it in. But they might not be able to afford Barkov next offseason
I think the value is definitely fair, but if the Wild were to trade Kaprizov, it would have been before the draft.
Turcotte + 1st or Lundell + 1st would be fair if the salaries worked

I’d think about why they don’t work. It’s a cap thing. If you are able to move cap around and retain, I think both of those teams would be in. But agrees that guys like Newhook and Lundell are the types of players that would need to come back.

Florida isn't moving Lundell under any circumstances, he's already been reported as untouchable. Not to mention that this deal makes virtually no sense for Florida because they need more quality centres than they do wingers (their top 6 wingers are filled up with Verhaeghe, Huberdeau, Reinhart, and 1 of Tippett, Hornqvist, or Duclair) - the better value is in their own wingers that they have to build around rather than spending $8M+ on one guy in Kaprizov. Lundell will be a quality 3C for them on an ELC that can easily develop into a future top 6 centre that will be cheaper than Kaprizov. There's just no logic here for Florida to even consider this.

I'm not sure about that signing for 3 years and retaining half. Teams might want to work the contract out themselves.

Fun fact: Kaprizov is untouchable too. So that cancels out

That could definitely be a consideration. I just assume a contender would like the flexibility Kap at 3.5 or 4 mil for 3 years would offer. I also think it would make the move easier as well given the smaller cap hit.

Cool? I never mentioned anything about Kaprizov being untouchable or not. But have fun losing him back to the KHL!

Lmao KHL))))). His KHL team has only 90 mil ₽ in cap space, which is about 1.2 mil $. And they dont even have the full roster whatsoever. And yes, you do have to pay taxes in Russia too!

That's a negotiation tactic, he is not going to the KHL. : D

I don't think the KHL is a negotiation tactic. MN has nothing for Kaprizov except money. He has no real ties here with being on lockdown his entire time in the US.

He holds all the cards and he knows it. He goes to the KHL for a year and watch how quickly the fanbase turns on the GM/owner/team. Fans already aren't happy with the Suter (and much lesser extent Parise) buyout.
