I can see why the trades with Detroit and the Rangers are reaching but I actually think the Fiala trade and the kerfoot trade arent too out of this world.
1. The Fiala trade is not out of this world.
It just doesn't address our most pressing needs.
Ottawa's most pressing needs right now are:
--- a top pairing RD to play with Chabot,
--- a #1 or #2 centre to serves as a counterpart to Josh Norris.
The Fiala trade does not address either of those needs and you're trading away one of our two top goalie prospects
2. The Kerfoot trade is out of this world, however.
Both Tierney and Kerfoot are worth the same and can be traded straight up.
For each of the two players, they are worth a 3rd round pick or a low 2nd if there's retention.
Kerfoot has another year left on his contract and is just "another Tierney", so the swap is not ideal for Ottawa.
What this means is that you're giving away the two draft picks in the Kerfoot trade for free
