Fiala post arbitration trade options

Created by: BoredWildFan
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 29, 2021
Published: Aug. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Wild filed for arbitration. Fiala has the choice of a 1 or 2 year contract. I assume he chooses 2 years which will take him to UFA status. I think a trade would be inevitable.
Looking at trade options, I looked for teams that would be trying to win now and took back useful players those teams are looking to trade.

Blues pass. Maybe with Tank and the pick, but Bolduc makes it too much.

      I wouldn't trade Vilardi for Fiala 1-for-1.

That’s fair. In my original draft I had Vlad, Bolduc and a possible conditional pick based on players’ production. Decided to go with the 1st because Vlad’s value seems to be minuscule and the 1st would be late in the round.

Nor would I. That’s why I added a guy who was rumored as a possible buyout candidate and an easily replaced fourth line grinder. With the addition of Danault to their lineup, the Kings can afford to move Vilardi. If the additional 1st seems rich, so be it.

There's a fair chance Tarasenko is being undervalued, which will become apparent if he starts the season scoring and the price shoots up.

Minnesota adds in a Fiala for Vilardi swap, not LA.

There’s no need for the NHL guys unless they need cap going the other way. I would say that Carolina and NJ seem to make sense. Anaheim too.

Yep this. Canes have a few roster ready prospects that can help with the cap issues over the next 3 seasons. Cotton, Bokk, Suzuki, etc.

Laughable. People overvaluing prospects which isn't even top prospect on kings. Fiala has better value

So wild take on worser players, contract and players in James R, and Vladimir R? Especially with wild r. Also kings proposal is bad

If Fiala was 4 years younger and not guaranteed to become a UFA in 2 seasons, then maybe. Vilardi is the third best prospect on the team with the unanimously best ranked prospect pool in the league. He would immediately become the best prospect on over half the teams in the league. He's still on his ELC and is rights restricted for at least another 5 years. I'm not saying that Vilardi is currently a better player than Fiala (although he's not that far behind), but his age and contract situation makes him more valuable.

I mean yeah. Wow. That's really over valuing him. Maybe more like

      Tarasenko
      1st

      Van Riemsdyk
No kicker or a 2nd for a 3rd kind of thing

      Maata
      Vilardi

If the Kings are trading Vilardi it's for a top LD, not Fiala, and not by adding a 1st round pick to it.

Fiala has about the same value as Reinhart. I'm thinking it'll be a disappointing return for him.

I know arbitration rarely goes all the way to a hearing, but I don't have a warm and fuzzy about this one being resolved. Strange move by MN since Fiala gets to pick the term (gotta be 2 years) and it'll lead him straight into UFA.

Sounds like Guerin isn't as high on Fiala as Fiala is on Fiala. Of course it helps our cap situation to not sign Fiala to a long term contract

I dunno. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground with GMBG. He either likes you or he doesn't and nothing else matters: skill, fit, team needs, etc.
