Byram is probably COL's only untouchable prospect, even for Couture as a TDL acquisition. And at 5.5 million retention, you might as well keep Karlsson and his 40 points a season.

Wow this is delusional. Couture is paid a huge amount until he's like 50 years old. Want nothing to do with that contract. And most definitely not for Byram.

I think CGY letting Valimaki walk to an offer sheet that is cheaper than he likely gets anyways is almost as goofy as thinking COL would prefer to have Couture over Kadri (straight up), let alone throwing in Bowen Bryam.

These deals are a no-go every which way.

Cap is King, and Crap is Not. Even with retention, teams want cap flexibility not declining veterans.

COL wouldn’t trade Byram for Couture straight up with the retention. Byram is basically untouchable.

Dude, getting this little for ridding EK65's contract doesn't make sense for the Sharks. He is a financial albatross and one that is absolutely a bad contract, but I'd expect the Sharks would have to give up more assets than it's worth if they're trading to a cap-conservative team like Seattle. We're much better off riding his contract for at least another season or two until A. he gets sick of San Jose and waives his NMC to go elsewhere or B. he gets injured again and we can banish him to Robidas Island.

Also, I got love for Couture but I don't see the Avs willing to give up that much to get him. There's no way they'll look to part with Kadri or Byram right now, and getting a similar haul will require Couture to have a rebound season which may not be in the cards given his age.
