Description

Monahan Trade is closely related to the Trocheck trade out of Florida who was also 26 at the time, Both Drouin and Monahan could use a change of scenery

Looking at the players involved, Trocheck got 3 prospects that were picked in the 2nd,4th, and 6th Round as well as Haula. L.Wallmark (4th RD) has only played 2 full seasons, this past year he didn't see much ice time and has since signed in the KHL for next year. C.Priske (6th RD) has been in the AHL Full time since becoming pro with not much upside as of now. E.Loustarienen (2nd RD) Played 44 Games this season talling 8pts, At 22 He still has decent potential to become a strong 3C aswell as a slight possibility at becoming a fringe 2C. E. Haula was a solid 3C option for nashville this past year and will continue to be for boston.

Poehling can drop into the flames bottom 6 with good potential as a solid 3C (Haula). Struble has been steadily consistent in the NCAA and I see his potential as a solid T4 guy.(Easily Values the 4th/6th RD) Drouin has alright potential but not much value right now with the unattractive Cap hit, this is where the 2nd Rd pick comes into play, the cap hit Drouin brings is settled more with the addition of this pick.

Broken down I see the trade as 2 2nd Round Value players along with drouin as t6 value and a 2nd RD Pick. Assuming Poehling is signed for less the 1 mil Calgary doesn't lose any of their existing cap and they are compensated for losing a strong 2C

Tell me what you think. Seems like alot but it also seems like its not enough. Moanahan is a weird valued player IMO

Yeah its tough cause it seem like a good return but if the 2nd RD becomes a 3rd it looks like its not enough. I tossed around if the pick should be lower or not.

TBH I disagree. We have no need for Drouin and he would 100% be in our bottom 6.

The only reason Calgary would be looking to move Monahan at this point is if we get Eichel. So there would be no money coming back. And I don’t like the value here anyway, a potential 3C and a 2nd isn’t great value for a consistent 30 goal centre, and Struble would never get a shot on our left side with Hanifin/Valimaki/Mackey/Kuznetsov/Poirier already in the system. Drouin’s honestly a cap dump at this point, he didn’t play this year and even before that was probably overpaid for a guy that has hit 20 goals once in his career, 4 years ago, and is renowned for being kinda lazy and not good defensively (Sutter would hate him).

Honestly I forgot about Coleman, Drouin wouldn't fit in there right away but i could see him working into it eventually

Maybe we could flip Drouin in a deal for Eichel? Could Buffalo be interested in that?

Replace Struble with Lehkonen (I think Calgary would love him). Calgary flips Drouin to Arizona in a separate Dvorak trade. Or make it a 3-way.

The flames are only moving Monahan if they get an upgrade at Center (i.e Eichel)
Because of this, if they moved Monahan to Montreal they wouldn't want cap coming back. So no Drouin.

Although many flames fans are frustrated, Monahan is not a cap dump.
His floor is a 26 year old 20g/50p Center locked up for 2 years.
I would be asking for 1st+struble/poehling

Honestly you could do a line of death with Coleman-Backlund-Dube on your 3rd line. Give them the tough minutes and then your top 6 gets easier minutes

Yeah that's the type of return I would be looking for.
This is also based on the flames acquiring another top 6 center elsewhere.
Otherwise, i cant see the flames moving on from monahan.
