Desert Sharks

Description
This is an attempt at creating a realistic and competitive roster for the Coyotes, I mean, Sharks.

The Kane situation is well documented. For this roster, let’s assume his contract has been terminated due to gambling. This opens up $7m in cap space and a top 6 roster spot.

Friedman reported that the Sharks were interested in Dvorak. The Sharks have been shopping Labanc. The Coyotes have also been shopping Phil. Doug Wilson can leverage taking Phil’s contract into acquiring Dvorak. Similar to the OEL/Garland trade.

Friedman also mentioned that Columbus is looking to move Domi (a decent Kane replacement). Like Phil, Domi has one year left on his deal.

If the Sharks falter again, they can look at trading Hertl, Phil, Domi, Cogs and Demers at the TDL as all of those players would be solid rentals on expiring contracts.

Gotta give more in Yotes situation. Don’t think Yotes are going to devalue Dvorak’s market if including Phil does that. Not really a similar situation to Garland and OEL bc Phil only has a year left and I believe there’s less real money owed compared to cap hit.

I’d imagine they trade Phil separately while retaining so a contender takes him on.

Kessel is not a cap dump. We can retain 50% and probably get a 2nd. Kuemper was traded for a 1st + B prospect. Dvorak isn't going for less. Doesn't matter what Reinhart costed, BA will be operating from the Kuemper deal. Where I'm going with this is that that offer is nowhere close to getting those two players. You want Dvorak, it's Bordeleau. We're not touching Eklund or your first (EK vibes).

This is a dumb comment.

You wouldn’t want the 7th overall pick for a maybe 50 point center? That’s lunacy

This is very well thought out. The principles and thought process make sense. Great stuff.

Would IMO have to adjust the deals in some way though. I think SJ hangs on to Labanc as one of their only two RH-shots (and Phil might leave after this season, leaving only Gamby) and replaces him with Weisblatt instead (who has more value too for the Yotes as a young guy who can be a part of the rebuild), and ARI can retain on Kessel to make the cap work. Likely have to pay more for Domi especially if CLB were to retain a little on that too to make it work cap-wise for SJ.

Think this is close to fair, but probably also favors the Yotes a bit given what they can flip Labanc into if they play him the way they played Garland with heavy OZ starts.

Dvorak is more of a 3C that was a PP specialist in 2021 than he is a top 6 guy and I think being way overvalued by Yotes fans. He had a solid year from a counting stats standpoint, but his underlyings were pretty average to mediocre and his counting stats were fluffed up by a ridiculously high shooting percentage and PP goals (i.e. things that are volatile year to year and not indicators of future performance). For perspective, his shooting percentage was 17.9% compared to career average of 13.6% while he scored 8 PP goals this year in 56 games after having scored a total of 11 PP goals in the prior 246 games.

I phrased myself poorly. I want them (Eklund and 1st), but it's not realistic. Sorry about that.

Even Bordeleau would be a non-starter for SJ (not for just Dvorak at least). I think a deal centered around Weisblatt is fair.

That's understandable. Most likely negotiations will center/stall around this. Unless San Jose bends, it's not happening. Both value wise and the fact we aren't trading our only good center for a (smaller) winger.
